May brings Mother's Day, so we have some specials just for Mom this time.:

(This was a *really* good suggestion since this newsletter also goes to my kids!)

NEW PRODUCTS:

New Carrier Oil - Karanja

From India - all the skincare benefits of Neem Oil
without the nasty aroma.

Karanja is reputed to be as effective as Neem in easing
the discomfort of Eczema and Psoriasis. Unlike Neem it
has a fairly pleasant nutlike scent. We would use this oil as
part of a blend for treating eczema, perhaps in a beeswax based balm.
I have heard soapmakers rave about the results when they use it
as part of a bar of unscented soap.

New Product - Dead Sea Salt

We've always used fine-grained Dead Sea Salts in our bath salts,
and have had some requests to make it available. So we've bagged
it up in one pound bags, on ournew and specials page, and
on our carrier oils and additives page.

Our Readers Write:

Brown Recluse Spider Bite

Dawn Pando, from Texas writes:I was working in the garden and was bitten by a brown recluse.
A friend of mine had been bitten and told me I needed to have it looked at right away. I talked
with a nurse friend of mine who worked in the area and had several recluse bite victims. She
looked at my hand and asked some questions. The area around the bite was red and growing
quickly. My fingers were tingling. She told me I needed to start taking an antihistamine (Benadryl) immediately,
start taking an anti-inflammatory immediately, and see my doctor the next morning. Instead, I did some searching
and blended equal parts of helichrysum (strong anti-inflammatory), thyme linalol (antibacterial), and lavender
(all around good and often recommended for spider bites), put it neat on my bite and took a dose of Benadryl.
The oils dry quickly and I wash my hands often, so I put a drop on a bandaid and kept a fresh dose on almost
24 hours for the next 5 days (changing bandaids every 6-12 hours). The bite mark is still there, but the tingling
and redness left. I am continuing to put the oil on the bite. It looks like it is going to scar, so I am hoping the
heli will help diminish the scar.

Super Salt Body Polish

To help spring clean your skin and get it ready for summer.

  • 1 cup fine sea salt or dead sea salt
  • 1/2 cup Jojoba Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 cup liquid Castile soap
  • 5 - 6 mls your favorite essential oil.

( I like either our Himalayan Lavender, FCF Bergamot, or one of the Petitgrains in this!)

Instructions:
Combine liquid ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly.
Once blended, add to salt. Pour into a squeezable dispenser or bottle
or package in one of our PET Bail Jars.

This mixture actually acts as a cleanser and an exfoliant all at once.
It leaves much less oil in the tub or shower than a standard "oil and salt"
scrub, and leaves our skin feeling soft but not slippery.

Spring Cleaning Blend

Awhile ago, Jenine Stanley wrote sharing some blends she uses with our
oils. This one seemed appropriate for spring cleaning time:

"A final blend I use in the diffuser and mixed with Borax crystals for the
vacuum is:

  • 3 parts cedarwood
  • 2 parts lemongrass
  • 1 part lemon tea tree
  • 1 part lime

This blend freshens, kills little critters in the carpet and keeps the vacuum bag from smelling like Golden Retriever and Maine Coon Cat."
Thanks, Jenine!!!! (I usually mix Black Spruce oil with borax and use it to freshen
my carpets...I might try this blend next time.)

Aromatic Quote for April: (although it may be a bit early
for the Spring Flowers where you are)

Flowers laugh before thee upon their beds
And fragrance in thy footing treads;
William Wordworth.
