Blog Post Updates

During January the Blog has contained:

Formulas and Recipes:

I saved these over 10 years ago - neglected to save the source so can't give credit where due, but thought they were timely for February.

Mystical-Romantic Bath

3 drops rose oil
3 drops jasmine
3 drops sandalwood
3 drops frankincense
3 drops ylang-ylang
Combine and swirl around in water with your hand.  Get in and enjoy.

(note - 15 drops are a LOT for one bath - perhaps adding to a pound of our Himalayan Bath Salts and dividing into two or three baths?)

Uses for Perfumery Blends:

(For years we've shared romantic fragrances in our February newsletter.  Browse our past issues for inspiration.) Once you have a custom scent blend, you can use it to scent a variety of

other scented toiletries:

Powder
Mix 10-15 drops scent blend per ounce of unscented clay, arrowroot or cornstarch.   (A blend of Bentonite Clay and Arrowroot make a wonderful body powder.)  Add the essential oils, package tightly, let stand for several days, then sift to remove lumps..

Bath Salts
10-15 drops scent per 2 oz. non-iodized salt or epsom salt

Lotion
10-15 drops scent per ounce of unscented lotion or cream.  Of course we recommend our Silken Skin Lotion!

Bubble Bath, Shower Gel or Liquid Soap
10-15 drops per ounce of unscented soap

Body Splash:
Mix 1 part scent blend with 10-20 parts ethyl alcohol or vodka, (Note: add about 1 tsp. glycerin
per 4 oz. prior to adding scent to act as a fixative.)

Solid Perfume
1 oz. jojoba oil
1/2 oz. beeswax
Gently melt together.  Let cool slightly and add:
60 drops scent blend
Mix well and pour into pots to cool completely.

For him - an Aftershave Gel

(again, I didn't save the source...sorry!)

1/2 cup aloe vera gel
2 tablespoons vodka
1 tablespoon Neroli Hydrosol (or hydrosol of your choice.)
2 teaspoons witch-hazel
10 drops sandalwood oil

some rosy skincare formulas from the National Honey Board:
Rose Oil & Honey Facial Mask

Rejuvenate and replenish your skin. Sweet almond oil, which is light
and easily absorbed, softens and nourishes skin. Honey as natural
humectant, moisturizes, leaving even tired skin incredibly smooth.
                  Gather:
                       2 tablespoons honey
                       2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
5 drops essential oil of rose

(folks five drops of undiluted rose oil is far more than necessary. One drop, or perhaps five drops of the 105 dilution will be plenty.)
Honey Cleansing Scrub-- Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons finely ground almonds and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice. Rub gently onto face. Rinse off with warm water.

Firming Face Mask-- Whisk together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon glycerin and enough flour to form a paste (approximately 1/4 cup). Smooth over face and throat. Leave on 10 minutes.   Rinse off with warm water.

Skin Softening Bath-- Add 1/4 cup honey to bath water for a fragrant, silky bath.  (Even better, blend 6 to 8 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend into the honey THEN add to the bath!)

Hair Shine-- Stir 1 teaspoon honey into 4 cups (1 quart) warm water. Blondes may wish to add a squeeze of lemon. After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Do not rinse out. Dry as  normal.

Did you know that the fragrance of your favorite oil will last longer in your hair than on your skin?  A drop of your favorite essential oil on the bristles of your hair  brush will subtly fragrance your hair for the day.\

Charity of the Quarter:

Once again we are asking for support for The Joyful Heart Foundation,  dedicated to healing, educating and empowering survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shedding light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.

We will be donating 2% of every Wednesday's gross sales,  and invite you to also donate when you place your order.

Aromatic Quotes of the Month

Love is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?
Love and Friendship by Emily Bront?(1818 ? 1848)

The supreme happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved.
   ---Victor Hugo

"Passionate kissing burns 6.4 calories per minute."  unknown, but I liked it!
