October can't be over! It's my favorite month, I
blinked, and missed it.
But we are celebrating - with a special Hallowe'en treat for all of
you.
On October 31, midnight until midnight, Pacific Time (that's where
our shopping cart is located) enter "treat" (without the quotation
marks) and receive a discount. A Halloween surprise discount. Most
of the day (and night) it will be 10% off all your retail
purchases. Sometimes it will be higher. (a real treat!) Sometimes
it will be lower. (It wouldn't be Hallowe'en without some tricks,
after all.) But if you enter treat and press apply, you will
receive a discount.
(The ghosts and goblins in the packing room just might tuck a
surprise treat in some of the goody bags being shipped, so I'm
told.)

New Hydrosols and Oils:
Two new Lavender hydrosols - both Organic Lavendula
angustifolia, grown and distilled in the USA, one my beloved
Lavender Mailette, the other Lavender Buena Vista. The Mailette is
softer and more floral, the Buena Vista crisper with an almost spicy
after note. For now, available only on our
Specials page.
New Lavender Oils:
A lovely Lavandin Super, from a different distiller.
Not yet certified Organic (the grower has the fields in
conversion). A truly delightful oil at a bargain price. And, again
from France, a certified organic Spike Lavender. A superb germ
killer, a powerful respiratory oil. When we were testing single
oils against the MRSA bacteria this particular Spike Lavender was
the most effective single oil, slowing its growth more than any
lavender specimen, either of our Tea Tree oils, more than anything
we tried. A premium oil at, unfortunately, a premium price.
Formula - "Please don't eat the Belly Balm"
We've been devoting every spare minute, and a lot of
overtime, to making more Shea Souffle' and Baby Bottom Balm. There
simply aren't enough hours in the day to make our deliciously
scented "Please don't eat the Balm" ... body balm or belly balm.
So we thought we'd share the formula so that you can make your own.
Weigh:
4 oz Cocoa Butter - scented
6 oz Virgin Coconut Oil
Melt the cocoa butter slowly. When melted, allow to cool slightly.
Stir in Virgin Coconut Oil. (The heat of the Cocoa Butter will melt
it.) When mixture starts to solidify, start to whip with an
electric mixer.
While beating, sift over mixture one measuring teaspoon of corn
starch. Continue to beat. Beat in 7 mls of Mandarine, Clementine
or Sweet Orange Essential oil.
Continue beating until fluffy and cooled. Package in one of our
Bail Jars, or several 4 oz plastic jars. Please don't lick the
beater!
AUTUMN SPICE SALE
Autumn is the time for spicy scents, so we have put
many of our favorite spice essential oils on sale - save 10% by
ordering only on our Specials page.
On the list: Cardamom Seed, Cinnamon Leaf, Coriander CO2, Ginger
Root, Holy Basil and Nutmeg - Enjoy!
and to use some of those spices:
Essential Spiced Cider:
Marion Lane shared this recipe a few autumns ago:
I made some homemade spiced cider with our neighbors apples. To 32
ounces of
fresh cider, I added 1 1/2 - 2 cups Orange Juice, a small cinnamon
stick, a dash of
nutmeg and cloves (to taste) and 3 drops of sweet orange EO. Heated
in a crock
until thoroughly hot and served. It was delish. I haven't used the
EO in a cider
before, just orange zest...but this time, there is no zest to
strain. It is REALLY
good if you add a cabernet, slightly warmed to the mix for the
adults :o)
(Thanks for letting us share that, Marion!)
(And I might substitute a drop of nutmeg essential oil for the
powdered nutmeg, a drop of cinnamon leaf for the cinnamon stick,
etc.)
CHARITY OF THE QUARTER:
Yes, we know it was past due for changing! With the
holidays approaching, we thought it would be time to help make some
children's wishes come true, so we chose
The Make A Wish Foundation
as our charity for the rest of 2006. 2% of our gross sales every
Wednesday will be donated. You can help us add to the total by
adding whatever amount you choose to your shopping cart. The link
is, as always, on our specials page. Take some time to read the
history of the organization, and some of the stories of children
whose wishes have come true. It will warm your heart!
New Diffuser - The MIO Diffuser:
I don't much care for battery operated gizmos, so
when someone first spotted this small (3 inches) battery operated
desk top personal diffuser I said "I don't THINK so." But then you
all started requesting that we carry it. So I got a sample.
Christi turns it on every morning when she comes to work. We were
convinced. Compact, easily portable for the traveler, quiet, and
effective. It uses the same replacement pads as our car scenter and
scentball, but is fan operated rather than generating heat. A
perfect stocking stuffer. For now, only on our
specials page. Eventually it will be added to our
Accessories page with our
other diffusers. Order now at our introductory low price.
If you are fascinated by natural perfumery - the
creation of perfumes using only natural, botanical aromatics, you
MUST visit Le Parfumeur
Rebelle (The Rebel Perfumer). Our client, Justine Crane has
created a site dedicated to informing her readers, to putting you in
contact with other natural perfumers, to helping you learn. If
shopping is your priority she has links to other perfumers
commercial pages. A delightful way to spend a morning.
Clinical Aromatherapy Course - Price Reduction
How often does someone BOTH lower the price and add
to the benefits? The Jane Buckle Clinical Aromatherapy Course has
had its price cut from $750 to $550, and Dr. Buckle has added a 210
page binder full of evidence based, researched information. Truly a
great value for health care practitioners starting on their aromatic
journey. Read
more about it and order it here.
BABY BOTTOM BALM - the wait is over!
It's finally ready. 4 oz plastic jars and 16 oz bail
jars. (The 16 oz jars are accompanied with an extra 1 oz jar,
perfect to slip into a diaper bag. My daughter in law Candice has
claimed the first jar. (Chelsea is almost 8 months now, and she's
almost run out.) For now, only on our specials
page.
- Final Clearance -
Aromatherapy Candles - Yes, they've been on sale
during October. Yes, we are down to just a handful of each. They
won't last much longer. If you've been planning - now is the time to
order.
Rosemary Cineole Morocco and Rosemary Verbenon USA - Same thing.
We are almost out, and we want them gone. I've lowered the price
even more, so buy them while they last. All
clearance items only on our specials page.
The BOOK -
Well, we had hoped it would be ready before the
Holiday season, but it appears it won't be. The GOOD news is that
the wonderful editor left in all the "stuff" I was afraid would be
cut - the safety information, the pages and pages of "materia medica"
- you all know how I do ramble on! But it is in final edit and
hopefully won't be too many more months.
TOOTHACHES
Few things hurt more than a toothache. And they
always seem to strike on Friday night, when the dentist won't be in
until Monday. A friend had broken a tooth off at the gum-line, and
ignored it. After all, it didn't hurt. For quite some time. Until
that fateful Friday afternoon, when he thought his jaw was going to
explode. Now, you all know I do not recommend the use of neat,
undiluted essential oils. And I do not recommend internal use of
the oils. But he was in agony. Extreme measures were called for.
I blended 20 drops of Myrrh oil and ONE drop of Clove oil. Put them
in an essendulum and took it
to him. He put a drop of the mixture on his fingertip and rubbed it
all around the tooth. Said within five minutes the pain was eased
until morning. He applied some more Saturday morning when he woke
up; again Saturday evening. It started hurting again Monday (a good
thing or he'd never have called the dentist.) He applied more of
the blend to the aching tooth, and promptly forgot that it hurt
until the dentist could see him on Tuesday, to remove a badly
abscessed tooth.
And the winner is -
Several months ago we had a contest asking people to
suggest a new use for one of our products, one that we hadn't
thought of. The winner is our friend Susan Grycan, who wrote of
having knee surgery.
A few days following surgery,
I starting walking around a bit and I was having terrible
cramping in the back of my calf, almost like a Charlie Horse
- but continual. Plus, I couldn't straighten my leg
completely. So I then remembered that my Helichrysum in
Rosehip would probably be good for that, to massage into the
tight muscle, because of the anti-inflammatory effect.
Instead, however, I decided to try the Helichrysum hydrosol,
since I was spraying my knee around the incisions with it.
Well it worked exceptionally well! I then continued to spray
my right leg, from the knee down, with the hydrosol a few
times a day for several days and it was remarkable! I am
certain that your Helichrysum Hydrosol is reducing my
recovery time considerably - it is truly a miraculous,
beneficial hydrosol!
Now, I use helichrysum essential oil in pain relieving blends all
the time. And I rave about heli hydrosol for skincare. But it had
never occurred to me that the hydrosol would be helpful for pain
relief, so this is most definitely the best "new use" for a product
to cross my desk in a long time.
And Susan's prize? Another bottle of Helichrysum Hydrosol, of
course!
Coming soon:
Hand Sanitizer:
One of you asked if we could come up with an aloe
vera based hand sanitizer. Some people are using our MERCY
treatment gel for this purpose, but perhaps a different blend of
essential oils might be effective against a broader range of
"bugs". The laboratory testing is ongoing, even as I type, and we
are waiting impatiently. What our human guinea pigs are finding is
that the aloe base dries as quickly as the more familiar alcohol
based sanitizers, and are much gentler to their skin. Once the
test results are in, if they are positive, look for it first on our
Specials page.
Linden Blossom Absolute:
We've been out of stock of this most 'innocent'
floral for years. It is on order, and should be in stock within
about a week or ten days. We weren't about to wait for its arrival
before sending out this newsletter, so watch for it on our specials
page.
Order # 20,000
Sometime later in November our "new" Shopping Cart
will save Order Number 20,000. We haven't quite decided how to
celebrate yet; or what the prize should be. But we'll be
celebrating, and the lucky client will receive... we haven't
decided yet.
HINTS, TIPS, AND FEEDBACK:
Stimulating Scalp Massage Oil: Some of you
know that recently, for the second time, First for Women Magazine
has recommending our "Stim Scalp Oil" for thinning hair. Now, it
was developed to treat Alopecia, and we never recommended it for any
other type of hair loss.
Florence P., of Hudson New York recently ordered her second bottle
of Stimulating Scalp Oil and left the following comments:
Special Instructions / Comments: I have used this since you sent
the first bottle and I had lost my hair due to chemo and it just
never came in on top of my head and I now have hair growing and
I thought that would never happen and for whatever reason it has
and if someone had told me about this sooner, which I read about
in First , I would have started to use it sooner. Hats are
okay, but its very hard to find some that will work with all
clothes and hopefully this will help it get thicker and make me
fell at easy without wearing hats all the time.. Thank you so
much for finding this and I have given it to two other people to
let them know that I have had good results so far.
We are so glad that Florence let us share her comments, and that
it's helping. We have had very positive feedback from others who
are using it for thinning hair, but Florence is the first to tell us
that it's helping the after effects of chemotherapy!
Boils -
A friend who threatened me with dire and dreadful punishment if
I mentioned her name came to me with a problem. She had been having
recurrent boils - on a delicate portion of her anatomy. I suggested
she try our MERCY treatment gel, since it's my understanding that
boils are often caused by Staph bacteria. She said that she felt a
new one starting, and wanted to prevent it. She applied the aloe
based gel twice a day. Three days later she called and said the
Mercy gel worked like a charm.
Random Samples - Back Pain
Eleanor Segal recently wrote:
Something amazing happened:
A few days ago I hurt my back. I though I may have done
serious damage (like ruptured disc). I was very scared.
Later that next day I looked in Worwood's book under back
injuries. I had just enough Rosemary & Peppermint from the
sample to mix with some ginger that I did have. I was better
right then & there!!!!! (Even without the Eucalyptus).
Really- I can not believe it!. Then I was able to get into
the bath- Epsom salt & a stocking bag of rosemary & thyme
from my garden. Next day I went to my Chiropractor, she said
some major adjustments happened. My body feel so much
better than before the injury!!!!!!!!!!
