Thanks to all of you who participated in our Hallowe'en "trick or
treat" sale. Thanks to your enthusiasm, October 31st was our biggest day
ever.
November Notes: To quote Dr. Seuss, "how did it get so late so
soon?" I thought we had another two weeks before Thanksgiving!
Hard to believe that people are already thinking about holiday shopping,
but one friend is bragging that all of her shopping is done already. If
you haven't yet started shopping...please let us help! Stay out of the
mall and shop online. Visit our
gift suggestions page
for some ideas...or our
jewelry
page, or our
aromatherapy
baths page...
You all know we've been out of steam distilled German Chamomile for
months. The arrival of this long awaited batch not only allows us to
make it available - but we can make Baby Bottom Balm! Sadie has
been standing over the big mixer in the production kitchen all week, and
we have lots of the Balm ready to go. The new and back in
stock essential oils listed above are available only on our New and
Special page.
"New Stuff!"
New Carrier Oil samplers - We've offered special samplers to help you
choose the best facial or carrier oil for your skintype for years.
But they were designed years ago, and didn't contain all the exciting
new oils we've added over the past few months. We've totally redesigned
our Dry, Mature, and Oily skin sampler kits, adding a wider range of
options. Available at
the top of our
carrier oils page, or on
our
skincare page. We get a lot of requests for suggestions
to help with either eczema or psoriasis. Both conditions are frustrating
to deal with, making suggestions is frustrating because what works
wonderfully for one person may do nothing for another. We have put
together another sampler kit - the carrier oils most often recommended
for use with either psoriasis or eczema, including the oils that clients
and friends have found helpful. For the time being the new Eczema Oils
kit is to be found only on
our Specials page.
New Lavender - CO2 extracted and absolutely gorgeous - the most
aromatic and floral lavender I have ever experienced - and New Lemon
Verbena Hydrosol - certified organic, crisp citrus scented relaxant. A
stunning Haitian Vetiver for those who love this sweet grounding base
note. All on
our Specials page.
Coming Soon:
We are impatiently awaiting a huge order of Canadian essential oils
and hydrosols. It has been stuck in Customs for over a week, as I type.
When/if the order arrives, we'll be adding them to the specials page.
You might want to keep checking for them. On the list - Ledum, Black
Spruce, Balsam Fir and Ginger Hydrosols, White Sage, Scotch Pine and
Balsam Fir essential oils. We're also awaiting delivery on more of
our beadwork amphoras, for our aromatherapy jewelry collection, a new
selection of aromalamps, new packaging for some of our products.
All sorts of things that have not arrived in time for this newsletter.
Cleopatra's Secret:
It seems you love my new group of skincare products for Mature Skin
as much as I do! We've added to the collection - our popular
Bliss Bath, lavished with the Frankincense, Myrrh and Rose Otto of
our Cleopatra's Secret blend, and a new, Anti-aging Serum for mature
or dry skin - based on the richest most highly nourishing skin care
oils, enriched with anti-oxidant CO2 Extracts and rejuvenating Essential
Oils. Many of you use our Mature Skin Elixir, and have raved about its
effects over the years. Our new Cleopatra's Secret Serum contains the
Elixir's active ingredients and so much more.
Want to sample them all? We have put together a Cleopatra's Secret
Travel or Gift pack - smaller sizes of our Creme Cleanser, Toner, Shower
Gel and Bliss Bath, with a spa quality headband to protect your hair
while treating your skin. This, and all of our Cleopatra's Secret
products are available on our brand new
Cleopatra's
Secret page.
New Jewelry - tiny sterling silver aromatherapy lockets - the size of
a dime. Just in time for Holiday shopping.
See them on
our Aromatherapy Jewelry page. (We are awaiting arrival of more
beadwork amphoras, but they aren't here yet. You might want to bookmark
our Jewelry page; we expect them in another week or so.)
Close-out Sale:
We are discontinuing our SleepyTime Synergy and Anointing Oil. The
cost of ingredients to remake this blend just makes it impractical to
continue making it available. Save 50% on our remaining stock
while supplies last. Also - we are in the midst of
repackaging our one ounce facial oils, carrier oils, and massage blends.
Take the "old bottles" off our hands and save 1/3! Both sales only on
our Specials page, of
course!
Prices cut: HYDROSOLS - We've dramatically lowered the price on
our Frankincense Hydrosol and lowered the price of our Roman Chamomile
and both Lavenders, as well. (Our new walk-in cold room allows us to
order and store larger quantities, so we are passing our savings along
to you.) We HOPE to be able to reduce our Carrot Seed and Cistus
Hydrosols, but we are awaiting a new shipment and need to see what
our costs will be. Stay tuned!

Speaking of Hydrosols and Helichrysum
We are frequently asked if other Helichrysum hydrosols (a lot less
costly this year) would be as effective as the Corsican Helichrysum that
we insist on. My instinct has always been to say no. I know the
essential oil grown elsewhere lacks the healing effects. Just
recently came across some comments by Jeanne Rose regarding Helichrysum
hydrosol: according to
Jeanne Rose, the California grown Helichrysum does not contain the
unique diketones - the chemical elements that make the Corsican variety
such an effective antihematomic - anti bruising agent. In my experience,
it also lacks the anti-inflammatory effects of the Corsican grown and
distilled.
Given the increasing difficulty in importing true Corsican
Helichrysum essential oil and hydrosol, I thought you might appreciate
an explanation of why we won't consider subtitutions
Oh MERCY me!
Every time we turn on the news we hear more reports of MRSA. We
were unable to complete the "human" testing that we had hoped for with
our MERCY Body Wash and Treatment Gel, but... the anecdotal feedback we
are getting has us awed and honored. Sometimes we know that
what we do at Nature's Gift has made a difference in people's lives.
People are testing the aloe based gel in student populations; we know it
is being used in some hospitals. If you have come in contact with MRSA then please, use this soap and gel to help keep yourself safe!

Holiday hint for your household...
Pomander Ball Cleanser
(adapted from a recipe from Barbara Lucks)
Not only does this preparation clean but the essential oils disinfect
and
provide a natural, festive fragrance.
1 teaspoon Sweet Orange or Mandarine essential oil
a few drops of Clove Oil and Cinnamon Leaf oils
1 teaspoon washing soda
2 teaspoons borax
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups hot water (to dissolve the soda and borax)
Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to dissolve and blend
the
minerals. You can spray this cleaner onto a surface then leave it for
15
minutes before wiping it off, to give the essential oils antiseptic
qualities time to work (makes 2 cups).
It will leave your house smelling like an old-fashioned, clove studded
pomander ball!
AUTUMN BLEND:
Years ago June Curtice shared her Autumn Blend recipe
- for those who are not in the mood for holiday blends:
> I just put together a forest-type blend of 15
>drops Black Spruce, 1 drop Atlas Cedarwood, 1 drop Galbanum and have it
>in my nebulizer right now. Lovely, rather like the woods on a late
>autumn afternoon after a rain. Woodsy but with a touch of composting
>leaves, very reminiscent of childhood walks in New England. It will be
>interesting to see how it mellows after a few days.
Scented Christmas Cards
Two methods for producing holiday scented cards - the one I've always
used and one Christi found online.
1. Dampen a cotton ball or paper towel with your favorite
holiday oil or synergy - a conifer, a gentle spice like nutmeg or
cinnamon leaf, our Holiday Joy synergy - put the moistened cotton
ball in a bag or box that may be sealed tight. Enclose your cards and
envelopes in the sealed box and let stand for at least a week or 10
days. (I used to do this with my business cards, they were wonderful!)
This method, of course, assumes you have already bought your holiday
cards; it's not for the last minute crafts person.
2. Christi's speedier version - using a small pipette or dropper,
place a tiny drop on one corner of each card. (I would make sure I was
using a colorless blend of essential oils for this one!)

chosen Women For Women
Women for
Women International mobilizes women to change their lives by bringing a
holistic approach to addressing the unique needs of women in conflict
and post-conflict environments.
We begin by
working with women who may have lost everything in conflict and often
have nowhere else to turn. Participation in our one-year program
launches women on a journey from victim to survivor to active citizen.
We identify services to support graduates of the program as they
continue to strive for greater social, economic and political
participation in their communities. ...
Women for
Women International believes that establishing a means to earn a
sustainable living is critical to being fully active in the life of a
family, community and country. To help women transform their new skills
into financial independence and sustainability, we offer Job Skill
trainings to strengthen women’s existing skills and to introduce new
skills in traditional and non-traditional fields so women can access
future employment opportunities.

Quote of the Month:
LISTEN.
With faint dry sound,
Like steps of passing ghosts,
The leaves, frost-crisp'd, break from the trees
And fall.
