Nature's Gift Labor Day Newsletter

At long last! We're back!  Some of you may be aware that we have had some difficulties at Nature's Gift lately.  For a combination of reasons, having nothing to do with our web host or the design of our site, we have been offline since Saturday.  But the site is back online and seems to be stable, so we are taking a chance on sending out this newsletter.  We know that the absence of our site caused a lot of concern among our friends and clients, and we apologize for the confusion.

In spite of being out of business for the last four days of the month, and in spite of the fact that Marge has been basically absent for the last two months, Courtney and T, with the loyal help of Vera, Denise, Linda, and our new co-op student Monica, have managed to see us through the busiest July and August in our history.  We thank you for your support, and I thank the women of Nature's Gift for service far above and beyond what they thought they could produce!

We are SO glad that summer is winding down.  Labor Day, for me, signals the end of summer, and the first hints of Autumn, my favorite season.

When I lived in New England, Labor Day also signaled the return to school for my children, although the young ones here in Middle Tennessee have been back to school for up to a month already.  Still, we've decided to put our favorite back to school products on sale for you.

ORDER Number 5000

Someone, within the next 24 to 72 hours, will place the 5000th order in our Shopping Cart.  That lucky client will receive a soothing jar of our Lavender Bliss Bath, along with our congratulations!

SYNERGIES - for mother, teacher, and student:

We have taken 10% off our best selling Germ Beater Synergy and room/counter spray to help you banish the new germs brought home from school, and to help the teachers among us keep their classrooms fresh and healthy.  For the student who has difficulty buckling down, our Focus Synergy makes studying easier, and for those who just can't "rise and shine" so early, our Fog Cutter energizer. All at 10% off, only on our Specials page.

Regarding Focus, did you know that repeated research has shown that if you study with a certain aroma in the air, and have a trace of that aroma with you (perhaps on a tissue or worn in one of our Amphoras)  during the test, memory retention is improved?

DIFFUSER and  AROMALAMP

Our simplest aromalamp, the Black Oriental, and our silent Spa Scenter electric diffusers are both on sale at 10% off this month.   Several clients use the Spa Scenter, attached to a lamp timer, as a gentle alarm clock in the mornings.

NEW CITRUS IN STOCK

RED MANDARINE

Our new, freshly extracted, shipment of Red Mandarine has arrived, and at long last my staff understands why Red Mandarine is my favorite of the Citrus oils.  Tart, almost effervescent, this refreshing spirit lifter is delightful in the aromalamp, alone, or blended with any of the deep base notes.

OVERSTOCKED CITRUS

BLOOD ORANGE

We overbought the organic blood orange, because we had searched for it for so very long. You may read about it both on our Specials page, and in our descriptive listings.  In our enthusiasm, we really did buy too much, so you will find it temporarily on our Fast Buys page, as well.

Warning:  the phototoxicity of Blood Orange has not been established.  Because of its different chemical constituents it might be a bit more photosensitizing than its cousin Sweet Orange. I would avoid using it in any leave on skincare product.

NEW CARRIER OILS

Two new skincare specialties for your enjoyment.

ORGANIC MACADAMIA NUT OIL

Most of you know that our refined Macadamia Nut oil is one of my favorite carrier oils to soften dry skin as well as prevent and repair sun damage.  Up until now, the only Macadamia we could source was highly refined.  We have finally located a small quantity of unrefined, organically produced Macadamia Nut oil and offer it for  your enjoyment.  Light, pale wheaten in color, the unrefined oil feels identical to our refined Macadamia oil, and I believe will have the same skincare benefits.  However, the intangible benefits of an oil that has been organically grown and harvested is appealling to those of us who are alway seeking the most natural possible alternatives for our skincare routines.  Available both on our specials page, and with our other Carrier Oils

SQUALANE

This all vegetable product, extracted from Olive Oil, is one of the most powerful moisturizers I have encountered.  Clear and colorless, it looks like water in the bottle.  Research shows that Squalane not only moisturizes the skin, but also provides a barrier preventing transdermal water loss.  It is an ideal ingredient in any blend for dry, chapped or scaly skin.  I have heard excellent reports from people using it in salves and balms to help ease the discomfort of eczema, as well.

Squalane is a natural component of human skin during childhood and adolescence, but as we enter our twenties, its level decreases rapidly, contributing to the aging process.  Will adding a drop of Squalane to your normal skincare regime give you the glowing complexion of a child? I doubt it!  But it should restore moisture and suppleness.  Avoid using on oily skin, or where acne is present.

Only a limited amount is available at this introductory price, so order soon.

GLYCERINE - BUY TWO get one FREE

Someone in the pouring room got very enthusiastic and poured several month's supply of this traditional humectant.  We lack storage space, and need to move it!  On the Specials page, order two bottles of our all vegetable glycerine at the normal price of  $6.00 apiece and we will send you a third, FREE!

HYDROSOL SALE

Our sparkling Lemon Myrtle Hydrosol - one of our best germ killers - had been out of stock for some time. Finally we have been able to source more.  We are offering it and our Green Myrtle at 10% off for your enjoyment.  Save even more by ordering a 4 oz atomizer of each!  Read about their uses and properties on our hydrosol page  but be sure to return to the specials page for this special sale pricing.

For those of you confused by the similarity in name, Lemon Myrtle is distilled from the leaves of an Australian tree (The foliage resembles the leaves of the more traditional European Green Myrtle, perhaps the reason the early settlers named the tree "Lemon Myrtle"?) The essential oil is extremely high in Citral, a very powerfel germ killer, but also a potent skin irritant.  Even in the much milder form of a hydrosol, I wouldn't use  Lemon Myrtle on my face, but would either save it for a room spray, use a splash in a glass of water for a reviving lemon flavoured thirst quencher, or, if I wanted to use it in skin care, would dilute it way down.  GREEN Myrtle, on the other hand, is derived from a European evergreen shrub. The essential oil is used as a gentle decongestant, the hydrosol is recommended for use as an eye wash or compress for tired, strained eyes.)

OUR CLIENTS WRITE:

School Day Jitters  Some of you may remember two years ago, when Debbie G's daughter started Kindergarten.  Alexandria was prone to nervous tummy aches, and every morning was a struggle to get her out of the car and into class.  The solution then was our Neroli Hydrosol.  Debbie called it "magical butterfly spray" and would spritz Alex's tummy...and shoo away the butterflys in her tummy.  (Neroli is the aromatherapy specific for anxiety, and the hydrosols are gentle enough for the youngest child.)   Now, two years later, comes the first day of second grade, and once again, Alexandra was in tears in the car.  Debbie pulled out the "magical butterfly spray" and Alexandria went cheerfully off to her first day of second grade.

Pet Skin Care:  Jenine Stanley wrote a few months ago about her use of our Hydrsols in caring for her family's service dogs:

"Marge,

Just a note to let you know that I wouldn't be without your hydrosols and to give you just a few uses for them that might help others.

This spring and early summer have been especially warm and wet in my locale. With 2 golden Retrievers and a newly fenced in yard, we've had our share of hot spots and wet smelly ears. 3 of your hydrosols come in so handy that I'm recommending them to all of my guide dog friends as essentials.

Tea tree hydrosol is the best thing to dry out, disinfect and generally clear up oozing nasty hot spots, those patches of skin your dog just loves to chew until raw. Tea tree hydrosol is also an incredible ear wash for killing yeast in dogs' ears. You can tell if your dog has yeast as a part of the gunk in the ear if the discharge coming from the ear has a sweet almost rancid smell and is crusty.

I saturate several cotton balls with the tea tree hydrosol and clean the ear as usual. If the ear is very crusty or moist, I will apply the hydrosol directly to the inside of the ear. You want to do this outside and allow your dog to shake its head to clear the debris and excess liquid.

Both of our dogs are male, but friends tell me the tea Tree hydrosol also works to rid female dogs of yeast infections in the vulva. Simply wash that area thoroughly with the hydrosol. For male dogs, some hydrosol on a cloth can help decrease the urine smell around the back legs and stomach.

I also use tea tree hydrosol as an overall body wash for the dog. Just spray some onto your favorite brush or comb and groom your dog as usual. I find the best grooming implement for this is the rubber Zoom Groom brush. Always wash your grooming gear after using any hydrosol, waterless shampoo, etc.

Oregano hydrosol is a life saver for cleaning cuts, insect bites, stings and even those hot spots that have become infected. I will wash the spot first with oregano then apply the tea tree hydrosol as a drying agent. Yes, your dog will smell like a pizza, but he or she will be much happier sans infection.

Finally, as a drying agent and to keep the skin inside the ears  at an appropriate PH balance, I love the witch hazel hydrosol. It smells good, is soothing and helps prevent what we affectionately call swamp ears.

As our two dogs are guide dogs, they must be in some pretty tight quarters in public, airplane cabins, elevators, crowded store lines. Using the hydrasols keeps them fresh and clean and free of infections.

Thanks for the great products!

Kristen Leigh Bell, of AromaLeigh, is an old friend who once offered a wonderful line of aromatic pet care products, and has authored the best book I've read about natural pet care. However, times and interests change, and Kristen has transitioned AromaLeigh into a totally different field. She now creates the finest line of mineral based cosmetics I have ever experienced.
I have extremely sensitive skin, and most commercial cosmetics give me dermatitis. I've been using Kristen's concoctions for several months and have been delighted. She has samples available of everything, gives full descriptions of what to expect from the different products in both her makeup and her skincare lines, offers terrific customer service. Her website also has a group of forums where you can ask other clients for advice and suggestions. I'd suggest ordering the smallest sample sizes of the products to find what exactly suits you. (and please avoid getting carried away and ordering samples of EVERY shade of whatever the way I sometimes do!)

Please use this link http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?aromaleighinc+pSPY4d+index.html+NEWBEAUTY   if you visit.  Guests that we refer via this link will receive a $5.00 coupon code on their first order of $20.00 or more.  ENJOY!!!

SAMPLES:

Did you know that you are always welcome to request samples of any essential oil or blend that intrigues you when placing your online order?  By now most of you know that we always tuck a selection of samples in with your products, but if there is something specific you want to experience, just leave a comment when submitting your order.  Courtney (or whoever prints the packing slip) will be glad to add them.   For the next few weeks, for those who do not request specific samples, we will be including samples of our Elemental Synergies - Earth, Air, Fire and Water.  You may see full explanations of them on our "Rites and Rituals" page.

PROMOTIONAL CODES:

There still seems to be some confusion on how to apply the various promotional codes and discounts we offer.  Please remember that if the code is not entered correctly into the shopping cart we are NOT able to manually calculate and rebill your order. Offering them through the shopping cart  saves the time and the expenses of duplicate billing.  At checkout, look for a box marked "Promotional Code."  If you have a code to use, please enter it there and press "APPLY".  Your discount will be automatically applied to the value of your order.  The same procedure applies to our 5% "reorder" discount, our healthcare professional discount, and any one-time-only special promotions we run during the year. If you have lost your packing slip and don't remember the code, feel free to email Courtney (marge@naturesgift.com) and ask her for your code.  She will be glad to send it to you prior to your placing the order.

CHARITY OF THE MONTH

For the month of October, 5% of the gross sales on Wednesdays will be donated to the American Cancer Society.  Past recipients have been Oprah's Angel Network and The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.  Courtney carefully researched all the charitable organizations we suggested to find those with the lowest administrative overhead so that the donations you allow us to make will go where they will do the most good.

Taking action:

My only brother is retired and lives in Pennsylvania.  He and his wife have come to know a young college student named Maggie who is faced with deportation.  He shared her story with me, and I agree that sending Maggie Arnold back to Peking would be a disservice not only to her, but to our country.  You may read Maggie's story here, (http://www.getmaggieagreencard.com)  and, if you so desire, add your name to those requesting an Act of Congress to allow this brilliant young woman to stay here.  I've already written my congressmen, and hope you will, as well. There is an easy form to send a message to your elected representatives on the site. Please speak up and help us help Maggie!

Aromatic Quote of the month:

rally to the great spiritual principles, the perfumes are there"
~Marguerite Maury,  The Secret of Life and Youth"~
