BEESWAX ABSOLUTE

Solvent extracted, France

This has no therapeutically redeeming characteristics that I know of, but it smells absolutely lovely! I had anticipated it smelling like honey, and it does. But it has the intoxicating essence of a mixed floral bouquet. Perhaps wildflower honey? It is warming and sweet, and relaxing. with the slightly bitter tang that strong wildflower honey can leave as an aftertaste.

BLENDS WITH: Every floral oil, including Neroli, Linden Blossom, Rose, Ylang Ylang (it seems to cut the sweetness of Ylang Ylang), Citrus oils, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Jasmines, Tobacco, Helichrysum, Roman Chamomile.

BENZOIN ABSOLUTE

Styrax benzoin Thailand, Wild, extracted from Resin

Benzoin has, in my experience, only one use in Aromatherapy. In the aromalamp, it gives a sense of warmth, comfort, and welcome Blended with orange or tangerine it is a sweet and comforting delight, a bit of a euphoric. Benzoin has a wonderfully warm scent, similar to vanilla. I don't recommend using it in the diffuser simply because of its thick texture; cleaning the nebulizer can be a nightmare, but in the lamp it is a delight.

WARNING: Benzoin is one of the strongest sensitizers and should not be used on the skin. The International Fragrance Research Association has pages of references of dermatological testing showing incidences of sensitization following use of Benzoin on the skin, especially on irritated or broken skin.

There are some aromatherapy "authorities" who recommend it for such things as healing chapped skin, cracked nipples, etc. It is my belief that using Benzoin absolute on the skin gives you the opportunity for temporary healing, while risking life long sensitization.

Inhaled, benzoin is recommended for treating bronchitis, asthma, coughs and laryngitis.  It is a sweet and soothing addition to any blend to treat bronchial problems.

CARNATION ABSOLUTE

Dianthus carophyallus, Solvent extracted from Egypt.

I adore the old fashioned scent of carnations and clove pinks, but have never been able to afford any true Carnation Absolute that I sampled.  Finally, an almost affordable specimen from Egypt.  Rich, sweet as honey, floral with a hint of spice. We all fell in love with it.  Available undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut.

Some sources state that Carnation Absolute  is a powerful aphrodisiac, while others say it is a very motivating oil, as well as being spiritually and emotionally uplifting.  I do know that we are all smiles when I leave a scentstrip of Carnation in the office.

In aromatherapy, at least one source indicates that carnation may be helpful for muscle spasms, indigestion, anxiety and other stress-related disorders. I can not see using such a rare aromatic for physical ailments where much more affordable oils will serve the same purpose, but its use as a mood elevating perfume makes perfect sense to me.

Valerie Ann Worwood says  that Carnation is a comforting, yet sensual personality which makes one feel euphoric, as if sitting in a sanctified place with a sense of inner calm. and suggests that it could be used to counteract neglect, cynicism, doubt, mental loneliness, emotional solitude, and self-criticism.

In perfumery, Carnation is an excellent fixative with a very long, slow dry down.

It is said to blend well with Clary Sage, Coriander, Lavender, Jonquille, and Ylangylang.

Cassie Absolute (Mimosa Absolute)

Acacia farnesiana France, flowers, Solvent Extracted.

A rare and special treat for the perfumers among us! Reminiscent of Mimosa (which is, botanically speaking, Cassie's nearest cousin) but far easier to work with than the granular Mimosa absolute that has been challenging me for over a year, Cassie is a delightfully fresh, sweet floral note. A complex aroma that Burfield describes as "fresh, somewhat green, sweet floral with powdery-balsamic notes. To my nose it has a sweet almost honeyed note, as well.

Guenther says that it "adds a unique warmth and woody-floral note" to high-cost perfumes, and notes that it should be used in very low proportions. Like Mimosa, it should add a wonderfully natural note to synthetic blends, as well as softening and "rounding" other blends. Available full strength, and in a 10% dilution in pure Jojoba.

Although its use is strictly in perfumery, with no history of therapeutic uses, some sources indicate that emotionally, Cassie may be helpful in dealing with stress and depression, that it lifts the spirits, reduces fears, and encourages communication.

Available both undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Jojoba for affordability. Also available diluted in perfumer's alcohol on our Natural Perfumes

Golden Champa

Michelia Champaca, India, solvent extracted.

Extracted from the creamy yellow blossoms of the Golden Champa tree.  We are all in love with this lush, rich floral.  It seems to have the exotic flair of Tuberose, with much more softness and sweetness.  Arctander describes true Champaca Absolute as a delicate dry-floral, with notes of Orange Blossom, Ylang-ylang, Carnation and Tea Rose.    Arctander recommends using Sandalwood as an anchor for this lovely absolute, and says it blends beautifully with Carnation, Rose, Violet, etc.

Golden Champa is one of the key ingredients in Joy, the world's most costly perfumes.

In India, a scented oil infused from the Golden Champa blossom is used for relief of vertigo and headaches.  We have no idea if the diluted absolute would have the same effect.  (But the sufferer would surely smell lovely.)

Golden Champa 10% Dilution

The same delightful Michelia Champaca Absolute in a skinsafe 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil, ready to wear as an exotic floral perfume.

Just in from the producer in India, this golden honey colored absolute is the first product we have ever sold by weight.  Too solid to pour, the Frangipani Absolute is the texture of a soft, spreadable balm.  We are packaging the undiluted absolute in glass jars, rather than bottles, and offering it by weight, rather than volume  10 grams (a scant 1/3 oz.).  Please note, it is soft enough to dissolve easily in your chosen carrier oil, but may not dissolve totally.

Frangipani absolute has a heavy, sweet, floral-green aroma, with a soft spicy background.  An exotic scent that is both sweet and fruitlike.  After some experimentation we have discovered that the aroma seems even sweeter when diluted.  Sweet as honey, longlasting and subtle on the skin.

Jasmine

As Rose is traditionally known as the Queen of flowers, Jasmine is called the King. It is an essential for anyone with an interest in perfumery, but offers much more than just a lovely exotic aroma. Jasmine is often recommended for use during childbirth. It is said to strengthen contractions, relieve pain, and aid post-natal recovery. It is also recommended by some as a hormone balancer, and soothing with menstrual pain. It is often used in skin care, especially in the treatment of dry or aggravated skin. Many use it in treating eczema and dermatitis, however it can be sensitizing and I'd not recommend using it on problem skin.

It is in its emotional uses that Jasmine truly shines. Almost every authority recommends it as an aphrodisiac, especially for those who lack confidence in their own sexuality. Battaglia says that it is as powerful an antidepressant as Ylang Ylang, Basil and Melissa. Fischer-Rizzi says it helps diminish fear and build self-confidence and optimism

Jasmine Absolute blends well with Bergamot, Clary, Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, Orange, Mandarin, Neroli, Palma Rosa, Rose, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang. I especially recommend blending it with Bergamot...the resulting synergy is comforting, soothing and yet uplifting at the same time.

Jasmine Auriculatum Absolute

Jasminun auriculatus India, Organically cultivated, Solvent Extracted

This much less known Jasmine has been a total delight to all of us here.  The experts describe it as having a rich, gardenia-like aroma.  I'm not so sure of that.  It is intensely floral, but with a rich rounded fruity aroma, underlying the radiant floral notes.  Even those of us who normally find our other jasmine species a bit too lush for our taste fell in love with this.

Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine, writes of our Jasmine auriculatum:

Although it is lesser known, Jasmine Auriculatum is a very exciting specimen with an unexpected touch of darkness. Ornamented by green herbal notes, it possesses a more austere character than the more familiar tropical fruit laden Jasmine Grandiflorum and much greener Jasmine Sambac.  The dark undercurrent tempers the opulent richness of jasmine, letting the scent vacillate between barely opened gardenia buds and tuberose blossoms, all the while remaining bold and spicy. Thank you for letting me try it. It is truly beautiful! "

Available pure and undiluted, of course, as well as in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Jasmine GRANDIFLORA ABSOLUTE

Jasminun grandiflorum India,Organic, Solvent Extracted.

In my opinion, this is softer, sweeter, more traditionally "floral" absolute.

Jasmine Grandiflora is much more widely known than the Sambac described above. It is the Jasmine grown in Europe and Northern Africa, and usually the specimen grown in the US. The Grandiflora is much more commonly used in perfumery than its rarer cousin.

Jasmine Grandiflora's aroma is softer, more gentle, and less exotic than that of the Sambac. As the Sambac blossoms seem to capture the mystery of the night and the moonlight, the dawn-blooming Grandiflora seems to carry the essence of a bright new day.

A softer, somehow more feminine aroma.... The English language seems to lack the vocabulary to truly describe the differences between these so similar aromas. You must experience both and form your own descriptions.

Side note: A noted British expert on aromatics sampled some of this Jasmine on a recent trip to the US. He declared it the "finest Jasmine he had ever experienced."

Perfume writer Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine,  wrote of our Jasmine Grandiflora:

Jasmine Grandiflorum

I have to preface my description to say that jasmine is my favourite scent, but I nearly gave up trying to find jasmine eo that would capture the true beauty of its blossoms.  What a pleasant surprise here!  Upon opening of the bottle, the scent rising from its rim is both opulent and exotic. It sings clearly, unobscured by heavy indoles that are often present in jasmine oil, making the scent seem too animalistic.  This oil is just a clear veil of jasmine blossoms falling from the sky.  Yet, the powerful sensuality underscores the sweet, slightly fruity accord.  The fruity note becomes more obvious the further the oil is diluted. It is reminiscent of summer fruit, perhaps sweet melon, lacking any acidity.  While it is very faint, it adds a very special elegance and evokes sun drenched blossoms.  Simply magnificent!

Bliss Bath, our powdered bath oil, made with Jasmine Grandiflora can be found on our Aromatic Baths page.

Jasmine SAMBAC ABSOLUTE

Jasminun officianalis sambac India, Organic, Solvent Extracted.

To my nose, this is the Jasmine with the richest, most heady aroma. If you are looking for an exotic scent, this is your choice! This particular offering is a new sampling of the Sambac, from a different supplier. Our production manager (a true Jasmine lover) broke out in goose bumps when I handed him the bottle to sniff. Glorious stuff!

How to compare the two Jasmine essences we offer? The opening notes of Jasmine Sambac are heavy and sweet with a richness and mysterious depth. As the scent develops, there are fruity and floral notes...complex. Jasmine Sambac is a night blooming blossom, collecting the wisdom and mystery of the moonlight.

A group of friends were sampling both of our Jasmines trying to describe the difference. Their considered opinion? It's a difference in gender...the Grandiflora is softer, more feminine; while the Sambac truly deserves the name "the King of Flowers".

Side note: 8000 individual blossoms (carefully hand picked) are required to produce one gram (approx one ml) of absolute. No bruised flowers may be used for extraction, since their aroma is ruined by bruising or mishandling.

JONQUILLE ABSOLUTE

Narcissus jonquillia, Solvent Extracted from Blossom, France

Several months ago we received a batch of Jonquille Absolute, and fell in love.  Unfortunately, upon testing, we found it had some 'components that do not occur in nature."  THIS batch is the real thing...a natural perfumer's delight.

But how to describe it?  Aromatically. of course it is floral, like the sweet springtime blooms that are its source.  But it's not a terribly feminine knock you off your feet floral...it is young, and sweet, greener than Linden...I think it would be a wonderful addition to a man's blend, because it doesn't drip with femininity the way most flower oils do.   Arctander, in describing Jonquille, says it has a "heavy, honey like, deep-sweet floral odor with a strong green undertone and a somewhat bitter, very tenacious dry out note.

Tony Burfield writes that it is often used in white flower type fragrances, where it contributes a deep floral character together with a radiant green quality.

We are amazed at the intensity of the 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil.  I plan to take a bit of that and dilute it way down, to 1% or less and see how it shines then.

Battaglia says that Jonquile absolute may be used to encourage inspiration, creativity and inner vision.

BLENDS WITH: Jasmine, Violet Leaf, Orange Blossom Absolute, Ylang Ylang and other heavy florals, or with green-floral absolutes.  I am wondering what a touch of it will do with Galbanum.

LABDANUM ABSOLUTE

Cistus ladanifer Spain, Wild, Solvent Extracted.

Treasured by perfumers, Labdanum, the Absolute produced from my beloved Rock Rose, adds a balsamic tang to any blend. Much deeper and more resinous than the steam distilled Spanish Cistus Essential oil, I find the Absolute much closer, aromatically, to our Corsican Cistus Oil. I would never use the Absolute for the physical effects of good Cistus oils, the lymphatic drainage and detoxifying effects, but its aroma suggests to me that perhaps it might have the emotional effects of a wonderful Cistus oil.

Labdanum is a key ingredient in Amber blends, and in many Oriental perfume blends.

This is a very thick oil. It will not come out of the orifice reducer in the bottle, however you can stick a tooth pick or something similar into the bottle to spoon it out. Otherwise, the bottle will need to be warmed quite a bit. This will loosen the oil, but you must work quickly, because it will solidify very quickly.

LINDEN BLOSSOM ABSOLUTE

Tilia cordata Solvent Extracted Blossoms, France

wonderful...the scent of Spring!

Linden's aroma is a beautiful, sweet, light floral. If Rose is a mature woman, then Linden is a young maiden. Colleen K. Dodt says it is a necessity in her "grief" blend (which, by the way, is beautiful.) My friend Harriet, my expert on the vibrational effects of the oils, says that Linden is the scent of hope.

Wonderful, alone or in blends, for reducing tension. Robert Tisserand cites it in blends to detoxify and decongest the skin. Some authorities call this lovely essence "Lime Blossom", but it has no relation to the citrus family.

Blends with: Frankincense, Geranium, Jasmine, Rose Absolute, Rose Otto, Tuberose, Lemon, Orange, Mandarin, Neroli, Petitgrain, Sandalwood, Clove, Ylang Ylang, Black Pepper and Ginger.

QUALITY WARNING: This is with no doubt the loveliest Linden Blossom Absolute I have ever experienced. One fairly prominent essential oil chemist asked me for a sample because he had heard we had a nice one, and he's researching Linden. He called me back saying it was a stunning specimen. BUT. at least two other essential oil chemists have recently said publicly, on some mailing lists that I participate in, that there is NO authentic Linden Blossom Absolute being produced today. So...I don't know. I am attempting to trace down the truth about this lovely absolute, but so far have not been able to. I do know that my source, a well known and well respected educator who has beautiful oils, believes it is the real thing, or she would not offer it. The bottom line is, I do NOT know whether this Linden Blossom is what it is supposed to be. I can not offer our standard guarantee of purity for it. Yet I don't want to take it out of our catalogue because so many of our clients love it. So I'm just posting this caveat to let you know it may or may not be authentic.

Available undiluted, as always, and now in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut oil, for affordability.

Blue Lotus Absolute

Nelumbo nucifera Wildcrafted, India, Solvent Extracted
This rarest of Lotus Blossoms yields an ethereal absolute. Light, delicate in aroma, not as floral as the more common Pink or White Lotus Blossoms. but its effect on the spirit is amazing. An "must have" for anyone working with the chakras, doing energy work, or using the oils as a part of their spiritual journey. Anne writes of feeling as though a tube of clear blue light and love was opened, inside her. of knowing that she was directly connected to a spiritual being, "I felt calm, peaceful and centered, but most important, connected and loved. A spiritual experience not to be missed." Anne describes the scent of the Absolute as that of a gently moving pool, being fed by the purest of waterfalls, filled with the scent of fragile flowers from heaven.

Debi speaks of feeling her third eye gently spiraling open. The first client to receive a sample of this exquisite absolute wrote of feeling her crown chakra opening, and filling with beams of clear light. Others say that Blue Lotus is associated with the fifth chakra. The Blue Lotus is said to be the flower of self potential and self-actualization.

I don't feel this oil the way some others have. But when I play with it I envision a clear stream, laughing its way over stones...with flower petals floating on the surface. A peaceful and safe scene, but lighthearted...joyful.

Blue Lotus is not for everyone. It is rare, and costly. We only have a little, and are offering it in limited sizes, while supplies last, undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil. (Our usual Jojoba just seemed to heavy for this delicate oil, after testing in Jojoba, Frac, and perfumers alcohol, we offer it to you in Fractionated Coconut Oil.)

Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine,  writes of our Blue Lotus Absolute:

Blue Lotus strikes me as having a very unique quality--translucence paired with tenacity.  I find that it starts out with a slightly pungent crisp note (not unlike White in some ways, which actually reminds me of autumnal leaves), however immediately crispness melds into transparency underscored by a subtle floral note and perhaps a touch of verdant foliage.  The visions of water you described are very apt.  I did a blind test, and this is exactly the reaction I had.

Pink Lotus Absolute

Nelumbo nuciferaWildcrafted, India (Tamil), Solvent Extracted

How can the same species of flower offer two so different absolutes? Initially, or undiluted, the Pink Lotus absolute has a spicy crispness, that becomes more floral the more we dilute it. This is my favorite of the Lotus absolutes, I love the soft floral note it reveals when diluted waaaay down.

Debi says as it dries down she can feel it strengthening the solar plexus, the third chakra, seat of the will. It is, initially, sharper than the blue lotus, but has a relaxing, calming effect. She can feel it warming her body with its sweet dry down. I feel it relaxing and supporting my spirit. Anne says her inner child craves it...wearing Pink Lotus as a perfume makes her feel as though she is in the middle of a tropical botanical jungle...the garden island of Kauai comes to mind.  The Pink Lotus is traditionally associated with the second chakra. As such, it is recommended for healing imbalances of sexual energies.

More than any absolute we offer, the Pink Lotus truly demands dilution. Straight from the bottle it is almost overwhelming, only as we diluted it down did its unique charm unfold. We are fascinated by the changes Pink Lotus seems to go through with every dilution. We have bottles of 10, 7.5, and 5% dilutions in Perfumers Alcohol. All are lovely; we each have our favorite; it is our truly chameleon. We only have a little, and are offering it in limited sizes, while supplies last, undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil. Please experiment with different dilutions to experience for yourself the multifaceted charm of this fascinating absolute.

Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine, writes of our Pink Lotus Absolute:

Pink Lotus (dilution in perfumer's alcohol)

Like other lotus oils, the initial accords are slightly earthy and pungent, yet Pink Lotus sheds them very quickly to reveal a unique floral heart.   I imagine that dilution speeds up the process by which the floral aspects start to shine.  Nevertheless, it is evident that Pink Lotus oil is the most floral of all the three.  Its floral aspect is a quiet aquatic floral, majestic and regal, rather than lush sensual floral like ylang ylang or jasmine.  There is no sweetness associated with the delicate heart of this oil, rather profound clarity and freshness ornamented by slightly earthy herbal accords.  Although these herbal notes fade to make floral heart stand out, they are always in the background, giving strength to the delicate beauty of the flower, much like the strong stem holding a lotus blossom.  Perfume melds into the skin leaving a beautiful lacy veil of these floral and herbal notes behind.

As times goes on, it seems to lift from the skin, forming a delicate misty veil over the wearer. The presence of something wonderful and enchanting, with a hint of balmy floral freshness and perhaps a mere drop of sunny sweetness, is quite unlike anything I have experienced.  Directly on the skin, the herbal notes are evident, albeit very soft, yet the overall aura of this perfume is pure floral magnificence of lotus.

I cannot but agree with you in picking this one as my favourite in terms of wearability.

White Lotus Absolute

We've been waiting for almost a year for this lovely to arrive. Less pungent and floral than our Pink Lotus, and not as light and crisp as the Blue, White Lotus has a clarity and smoothness all its own. It couples a subtle aroma with a powerful emotional and spiritual effect. All who have sampled it spoke of the feeling of serenity and tranquility it brings. One tester says that it puts her mind in a state of relaxed awareness, while another said that she feels like a veil has been lifted, she is given a deeper understanding, a brightening of vision. Everyone who sampled it spoke of either the clarity of its aroma, or the feeling of clarity it produced in them. A wonderful meditation oil, said to be associated with the crown chakra. As such, it may help connect the mind and the heart.

Available undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine, writes of our White Lotus Absolute:

White Lotus

I have to confess that on the first try of diluted oil (10% dilution), I was not particularly enchanted.  It seemed to be rather pungent, especially after trying magically transparent and crisp Blue Lotus. However, I could not just put it out of my mind and kept returning to my little vial for some more.  The changes this oil undergoes are remarkable! The first impression is of diving far too deep in the pond and emerging with the smell of the silt on the skin.  After about 10 minutes the pungent earthy notes wash away by a clear crisp accord.  It is as if one witnesses lotus blossom unfolding slowly, little by little allowing one to smell the subtle floral heart.  Unlike Pink and Blue Lotuses, this one makes you wait much longer for its magic to become evident.  Yet, the wait is certainly worth it.  I can just imagine what its uses for perfumery might be--to add a dark mysterious note, or to ground more delicate floral notes.  However, it is at its most amazing as a therapeutic, emotional oil, because it just seems to fill one with serenity and clarity (which is what I find of other Lotus oils as well). Interestingly enough, as the oil dries down, it seems to hide its floral aspect once again and veil them by soft silt-y notes. It is simply amazing in terms of its complexity, like a true perfume created by nature--top, middle and base notes present.

ORANGE BLOSSOM ABSOLUTE

Citrus aurantium var amara Egypt, Solvent Extracted from Blossoms

Extravagant, and wonderful for the perfumers in our midst is this deep, complex absolute from the blossoms of the Bitter Orange Tree. Produced by a master extractor, this absolute is reminiscent of our Neroli essential oil, but much deeper and more complex in aroma. The undiluted absolute has a touch of a green note to it, fresh from the bottle, on dry down, and when diluted it becomes a radiant floral, rich, warm, heady. Amazingly potent even in very low dilutions or as a minute part of a blend, this Orange Blossom absolute is the perfumers dream. I am wearing it blended half and half with our Neroli essential oil, it's perfect compliment. It will add depth and heart to any blend that needs a non top note floral. Absolutely EXQUISITE! We are offering the absolute full strength, of course, and in a 10% dilution in both Fractionated coconut oil.

Gail Adrian, fragranceur extraordaire, writes this about Orange Blossom Abs..."

I happen to be absolutely addicted to Orange Flower Absolute!  It has a sensual/sexual quality that I crave when creating heady, bold, and rich perfumes.

There can be somewhat of a difference in them. . . .   Play a bit..  You can always blend it with a less audacious scent like Lav. Abs. or even Benzoin in the Base.  Something else
that might mitigate it, might be some excellent Frankincense.  Use some lighter middles, some Ho leaf or  Ho wood, some of the earthier spices such as Coriander, or Ginger.  a lovely Green Coriander would also pick up that middle then, in the top use something really ephemeral to balance out the
eroticism of the bottom perhaps a Violet leaf, if you have it, or a Frangipani, or if you don't want to break  the bank a lovely
petitgrain/bitter orange/ with perhaps a dash of lavender?

When I smell Orange Flower Absolute, I think of Louis the XIV and the Hall of
Mirrors yummmm  It doesn't get more decadent than that.

OSMANTHUS ABSOLUTE

Osmanthus fragrans Solvent dissolved from blossoms, China

Very different from the light, fruity Osmanthus we carried in the past. The other was a delight...light, sweet, a daytime scent. This newer extraction is deep, dark sultry and mysterious. The sweet fruit note is still there, but there are also notes of leather, of wood...it is a much more complex scent...  a bottle filled with sunshine.

I sent a wee sample to a friend who is one of the best "noses" I know...and this was his emailed reaction:

"You mentioned that while similar in source, they were two very different oils. How understated! The darker (French?) oil was so deep, absolutely profound. My girlfriend was over when the package arrived, and she thought I had "temporarily lost it." She said when I opened the darker Osmanthus oil my eyelids started blinking and then I just closed my eyes for a few minutes. It was breathtaking. It took me to places fantastic. I'm not sure of the safety of that oil, but when my lady-friend saw the effect it had on me, she pulled a fast one on me. Later that week, we were to attend a special concert at the local opera house. She has just got a new cut velvet dress and shawl for the occasion, and when I picked her up, she was wearing the Osmanthus! She said all the women were asking her what she was wearing that night. I told her not to do that again, because some of the oils could be irritating or sensitizing (thinking of the sample of Corsican Verveine you sent me!) especially if used undiluted. It seemed, however, to mix with her chemistry brilliantly, and she said she only used a drop, and was very surprised at its potency. Later, we had a little "lesson" on essential oils! I now have a feeling I know one of your gender's "secrets" of intoxicating a member of the opposite sex with potions. By now you must realize that I'm a hopeless romantic, but that night I looked at her in a different light, and saw that people moved in and out of ~her~ presence, which was greatly influenced by the Osmanthus."

End of unsolicited testimonial....There's no WAY I could have made that one up!

Rare and delightful. Do a search in a perfumery site and see the high end perfumes that include Osmanthus for its exotic, bright fruitlike note.

ROSE ABSOLUTE

Rosa damascena, Turkey, Solvent Extracted, flowers, Organically grown but not certified

This absolute is solvent extracted from the same roses as our distilled Rose Otto. The use of solvents yields a deeper, richer Rose aroma, making the absolute far better for perfumery, and perhaps for emotional uses. However, for skin care, for internal uses, and for physical effects the pure steam distilled Rose Otto is the wiser choice. Both are well worth experiencing! One luxury loving client recommends blending the two for the ultimate sensory experience.

The absolute is a deep orange in color, and needs diluting to be truly appreciated.

BLENDS WITH:  All the different rose oils blend especially well with Frankincense, Jasmine, Lemongrass, Mandarine, Patchouli, Sandalwood, and Vetiver.

ROSE DE MAI ABSOLUTE

Rosa centifolia - France, solvent extracted.

Grown in the fields of Pegomas, in the Maritime Alps and extracted in Grasse (the world's perfume capitol) by a master perfumery supplier.  The ultimate Rose, the perfumer's dream.  We couldn't resist it. The most stunning rose oil I have ever experienced.   Available undiluted,  and in a 5% dilution in Fractionated Coconut, ready to wear.

Both versions available in 2, 5, and 15 mls.

I recently came across a beautiful description of the village in France where these lovely roses are grown, and of the production of the absolute.  We were given permission to use the description, but it's easier for you to just read it here for yourself.

ROSE  MAROC   Rose Centifolia Abs. (Rose de Mai)

Rosa centifolia Turkey, Solvent Extracted, flowers

My first experience with a true rose oil was a Rosa Centifolia Absolute.  I fell in love, and it was  years before I found another rose that I liked as well.  Since then, every centifolia that I've sampled fell short...until this one.

Arctander calls this lovely absolute "Rose de Mai"...  Valerie Worwood refers to it as "Rose Maroc" and I've borrowed her terminology.

We spent an entire morning trying to describe the difference between our Centifolia and Damascena absolutes.  It doesn't help that we are split right down the difference in preferences.  We agree that the Damascena (above) is a bit deeper, with perhaps a touch of a spice note buried in it's depths.  I'd classify it as a low heart note, a bridge between base and heart notes, in blending.  The Centifolia, on the other hand, is a bit lighter, a high heart note, and a true clear rose scent.  Which is the right one for you?  We can't begin to guess...request samples of each!

For your convenience we also offer our Rose Maroc diluted in Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Sandalwood Absolute - Colorless

Santalum austrocaledonicum Concrete from New Caledonia, Vacuum distilled from absolute in France.  (Vacuum distillation to remove impurities and color.)

This colorless absolute is less intense than our distilled sandalwood oils available on our essential oils page. It is closer aromatically to our Tamil Nadu oils, but not their equal in aroma.   Its comparative affordability and its total clarity gives it a place in any collection.

I don't use it for the multitude of healing reasons I keep true Santalum album on hand, but the next batch of Sandalwood soap we make will be much more affordable, due to the relatively low cost of this Absolute.

TOBACCO ABSOLUTE

Nicotania tabacum, Bulgarian, Solvent extracted, Leaves.

For the perfumers among us...

Looking for "just the right note" for a masculine blend?

or looking for something to add some depth and intrigue to the most exotic florals...Jasmine, Tuberose, Ylang Ylang? something to balance their intense femininity?

reminiscent of English gentlemen in their Club, sipping brandy in quiet companionship...

My son says it reminds him of very expensive cigars. I am reminded of an old, well-worn tweed jacket, perhaps a bit frayed around the cuffs...one your grandfather would have worn while taking you for autumn walks.

A secret note of the finest perfumers.... now yours to try.

only a drop or two needed.... at most, one part in ten... wonderful with Lavender...try it with one of the rosy-scented EO's... Palma Rosa or rose geranium... or with a soft, gentle clary....

Experiment! this one needs playing with....and the blends will want time to mature. but aaaaahhhhh, it's gorgeous.

TUBEROSE Absolute-Out of Stock

Polianthus tuberosa, Morocco, blossoms, solvent extracted.

We have been out of Tuberose Absolute for almost two years, because I could not find a specimen I wanted to offer you. Even the producer of the lovely Indian extraction we offered in the past couldn't please me, his newest batch set my teeth on edge. But finally an obscure Moroccan perfumer has extracted the perfect Tuberose...exotic, floral, sensuous and rich, I fell in love with this exquisite absolute.. Tuberose is the most exotic and intensely floral absolute I've ever experienced.

Jeanne Rose describes it as being close to the aroma of lilies, or of members of the Freesia family.  If I had to describe it I'd perhaps think of a blend of Jasmine Sambac, for the exotic notes, and Rose Otto for the intense floral. Tuberose Absolute is a must for anyone with an interest in perfumery, or a desire to experience new scents.

Some sources indicate that the oil might be effective in treating impotence or frigidity. I'm not sure of this, I know Rose Otto has proven effective in treating the latter, but the Tuberose might be worth trying. Emotionally, it is said to induce relaxation, and help in protecting personal energy and personal boundaries. The alleged relaxing reaction has not been my personal experience with this glorious oil, however.

Victoria, of Bois de Jasmine, writes of our Tuberose Absolute: Your tuberose oil is simply magnificent, and I think that the next time I will splurge for undiluted extract.

It takes 3600 pounds of blossoms to produce 1 pound of the absolute.

Also available in a 10% dilution in Jojoba below.

VIOLET LEAF ABSOLUTE

Viola odorata, solvent extracted, Egypt

After a lot of requests, I finally found an exquisite Violet Leaf absolute that we are proud to put our label on. Intensely green initially, this absolute has a soft subtly floral dry down.

I have seen this absolute recommended in various mature skin care blends. Victoria Edwards says that it acts as a sedative, a liver decongestant, and a circulatory stimulant, that it treats aging and problem skin, blackheads, and enlarged pores. (wondering how it would work blended with Cistus's astringency and lymphatic stimulation...and the aromas would, I think, speak to each other.

Emotionally, Violet leaf is said to support the emotions and the heart...to soothe both nostalgia and obsession....Worwood describes it as "silent, seductive, and persuasive...helps you to realize your potential." She recommends it for timidity of the spirit, shyness, to overcome fears and shyness. Energetically and ritualistically, it is an oil of springtime, and of new beginnings and new growth.

For perfumery violet leaf offers a wonderful springtime green leafy note, that should blend beautifully with Rose, Tuberose, Lemon, Clary, Grapefruit, Mandarine, Basil, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Clove, Bay, Cinnamon, Geranium or Lavender. Available both undiluted, and in a 10% dilution in Jojoba.

YUZU Absolute

Citrus junos Solvent extracted from the zest of the fruit sometimes known as Japanese Citron.

There's a lot of 'reconstructed' Yuzu available...most of which seems to be a blend of grapefruit, some other citrus oils, and who knows what. This is the real thing, not cold pressed like most citrus oils, but an absolute...which should give it a lot more 'staying power' in a blend.

Aromatically, this Yuzu is dry and tangy... a tart initial note, reminiscent of VERY tart grapefruit, with a dry down that reminds me of dry champagne...tingly and bubbly! My authorities mention that the "synthesized" Yuzu is often concocted of grapefruit and Mandarine, with added citrus derived chemicals. They may come close to the aroma of this amazing absolute, but lacks its depth and tenacity. Yuzu Absolute is the perfect solution for the perfumer who is seeking for a tart, non woody or resinous note to make a citrus blend last.

Emotionally, Yuzu is said to encourage concentration and focus, give spiritual strength and courage, and to encourage centering. Valerie Worwood recommends it, because it is the quintessential Japanese fruit, for use in Reiki healing and attunements. Yuzu may also be used as part of a spiritual purification ceremony.

It is said to blend well with Atlas or Himalayan Cedarwood, Sweet Basil, Bergamot, Black pepper, Cardamon, Coriander, Clary, Cypress, a touch of Jasmine, Lavender (I like it best with our Himalayan lavender!) Sweet Marjoram, Pine, Rose Absolute or oil, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang. (I prefer it with the Ylang Ylang Complete.)
