Rose Bliss Bath

(Also available in Jasmine and Lavender, as well as unscented for your own creations.)

There's a story behind the development of this new product. Some of you know that 2002 was a difficult year for us, on a personal level. We mourned the loss of dear ones, and I personally was left bereft. Days were busy, and okay, but once I came home from work, the nights were so very empty and lonely. I knew I had to do some things to nurture and take care of myself, of my spirit. One of these things became a nightly ritual...a warm bath, beeswax candles, soft music, and rose oil in my bath, because our pure  Rose Otto nourishes a woman's spirit, as well as her skin. Bath salts weren't the answer for me...my more than mature skin finds salts too drying. I needed a bath oil, but they float on top of the water and feel greasy, not soft and nourishing.

I experimented with a friends formula for a "blooming bath powder"...and thus our Bliss Bath was borne. A container of powder (actually a special form of tapioca starch), each wee bit moistened with nourishing, rich Jojoba oil, with my beloved Rose Oil added with a generous hand. Add a scant scoop of this magical stuff to the tub as it fills...the powder dissolves, dispersing the moisturizing jojoba, and the silky soft powder throughout the water, so that every inch of your skin is caressed with its silken touch. The Rose Oil soothes and nurtures both the skin and the spirit. You leave the bath with your skin feeling soft and silky, your spirit rested and restored. The soft scent of roses surrounds you.

This feather light powdered balm is tightly packed in a PET bail jar (for safety), so you can securely seal it to keep moisture out. We are legally required to sell it by weight, and I'm embarrassed to admit that it weighs only 2 and 1/2 ounces. But it measures a full 16 ounces by volume by the time we finish packing it. One container will give you between 15 and 20 blissful baths, depending on how extravagant you are with it.

We debated whether or not to offer this product. It's costly, when the supermarket is filled with $2.98 bottles of bath oil. But every woman who sampled it begged for more. Two young women, not Rose Oil lovers, emailed me that it was a "Four Star!!!", those who love Rose want to stay in the tub all evening, and one husband wrote the following glowing review:

"Nature's Gift Bliss Bath caresses her body, leaving her skin soft and silky smooth. Enjoy a relaxing soak in Nature's Gift Bliss Bath before your next romantic interlude. Entice and delight your mate with the velvety touch of your supple skin."

Now, folks, I didn't design this as an aphrodisiac...I designed it to make ME feel better. But who am I to argue with this nice young man.

Jasmine Bliss Bath

Unscented Bliss Bath

We have a friend with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. She can not use any aromatic product on her skin, not even our pure essential oils in the lowest dilutions. But she wanted the emollients of our Bliss Bath to soothe dry, flaky skin. Marge whipped her up a batch of Unscented Bliss Bath...rich with Jojoba, and she loved it. Then it was suggested that people could add their own essential oils or blends to the Unscented Base. Voila! Add approximately 1/4 cup extra jojoba, with perhaps 3 mls of your favorite synergy or essential oil. Blend in very well, and there you have it - your own custom made Bliss Bath. We packaged this in cellophane bags, for ease of mixing. (When we package Bliss Bath in our Bail Jars, it is packed TIGHT and would be hard to work with.) If you are making this as a gift for a friend, you might want to purchase a Bail Jar for the presentation.

Rose Shower Gel

For those who simply don't have time to luxuriate in a Bliss Bath, we have designed our moisturizing Rose Shower Gel. A gentle blend of saponified oils, enriched with extra glycerine to leave your skin soft and moisturized. We blend in generous amounts of both our Bulgarian Rose Oil and Rose Absolute, to surround you in a cloud of rose scented lather. What a wonderful way to start or end the day!

UNSCENTED SHOWER GEL

You love our rich creamy shower gel in Rose, or Cleopatra's Secret. You've asked us to produce it with a range of your favorite blends or oils.

Now, for your own creativity, we're packaging our shower gel in a 4 ounce PET plastic bottle with a lotion pump top. 

Either use 'unscented' or add from 0.5 to 2 ml of your favorite essential oil, absolute or blend, stir well, and enjoy!  (note, you could safely add up to 3 mls of any non-irritating oil, but we find that the smaller amount is usually sufficient.) So the instructions should really read "to taste."

Contents: saponified Coconut, Olive & Jojoba oils, added vegetable glycerine, vegetable gum, aloe and rosemary oleoresin as an anti-oxidant.

Soap Savers  NEW and redesigned

To protect your precious handmade soap, keep it high and dry. (I bought some of these when a bar of Mille Fleur rather glued itself to the side of the tub...took a screwdriver to pry it loose.) Crafted of Southern White Pine. Now I have one at every sink in the house. Soaps last longer and stay neat.

Our older pine soap decks did keep our soaps "high and dry" but sometimes the bar of soap clung to the dish after it dried. Voila! our favorite woodworker to the rescue. These newly designed soap dishes both allow the bar of soap to dry thoroughly, but resist sticking as well.

Clarifying Soap

Our Clarifying Synergy in a base of gentle liquid castile soap.

This special liquid soap base allows the healing qualities of our precious essential oils to come through, since they are not subject to the stresses of the saponification process, as they would be in a solid soap. No artificial colors or preservatives to trigger possible irritation or allergic responses, just pure liquid castile (created from saponified Olive, palm and coconut oils with aloe vera gel added) and our wonderfully effective essential oils. We recommend following with one of our healing hydrosols to further tone and condition the skin. Please note, some Rosacea sufferers have also reported excellent results from using this soap.

Liquid Castile Soap

A gentle unscented liquid castile soap to contain your favorite essential oil or blend! Our liquid castile is crafted from saponified organic olive, organic palm and organic coconut oils, with organic aloe vera gel added, ready to receive your favorite ingredients. Use in the bath or shower, dilute for a natural vegetable wash, or use for hand washing delicate fabrics. Add up to 1.5 ml of essential oils, and shake to blend well. Packaged in Essential Oil safe PET cobalt plastic with a flip top for your convenience.

MERCY Soap and Treatment Gel

MRSA-(drug resistant "staph")

Some time ago we were contacted by a holistic nurse/client in Wisconsin and asked to take part in a research project.  Reading she had done indicated that a body wash, containing lavender and tea tree essential oils, if left on the skin for a period of time, could be effective against MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). 

We tested different strengths and combinations until we found the mixture that was 100% effective in the laboratory.  This particular combination killed the MRSA bacteria in a laboratory culture.  The results have been repeated and replicated.  Oddly enough, we found that no single essential oil completely killed the bacteria. (Although the most effective was a rare Spike Lavender from France, which, of course, we promptly imported!)

We later went on to test a "leave on" version. The same blend, at a different dilution, in our gentle organic aloe vera gel.  It too kills the MRSA bacteria under laboratory conditions.

Human trials are being organized in Wisconsin even as I type.  But we are unwilling to wait to release the product that has been tested. (And the nurses want to order it for their personal use!)

Will our MERCY Body Wash and/or Treatment Gel kill the MRSA bacteria if you come in contact with it?  We don't know. And even if we did know, we couldn't say so, due to various federal laws and regulations.

What we can say is that the soap will clean your skin, and contains proven natural anti-bacterial ingredients, and that the treatment gel will soothe your skin, while also providing proven, natural all organic anti-bacterial ingredients.

I  wish I had known of this research in Autumn 2005 when I was hospitalized for two weeks and spent months recuperating....from MRSA!

Dead Sea Salt

Himalayan Crystal Salts

The world's purest salt. Produced by immense pressure in the heart of the Himalayas, these colorful salts are said to contain up to 84 different minerals all necessary for life. A bath in these naturally red and pink colored salts is said to detoxify on a cellular level, to soothe and rejuvenate the skin, ease muscle soreness and cramps, and relax and relieve stress.

The most fascinating salts we have ever seen - Imported from Africa, totally natural... from Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa, and the second lowest in the world, second only to the Dead Sea.  Like the Dead Sea, the water in the lake evaporates rapidly because of the hot, dry climate.  Lake Assal is said to be the saltiest body of water on earth.  Salt has been harvested from the lake shore for milleniums. Dendritic Salt

To extend the fragrance of your handcrafted bath salts we're making available the professional secret, Dendritic Salt.  For reasons I totally do not understand, powder fine Dendritic Salt has more surface area (because it has been crystalized) than our larger salt crystals. For this reason it absorbs and holds your essential oils or blend longer. 

When blending aromatic bath salts, use approximately 5% Dendritic Salt with the other 95% salts of your choice... Pink Himalayan, Dead Sea, Epson, or plain Sea Salt.   For one pound (16 ounces or 450 grams) of other salts, use approximately 0.75 ounce (3/4 oz or 22 grams) of Dendritic Salt.  Add your essential oils to the dendritic salt; blend well, allow to dry.  Then blend the Dendritic into the other salt or salts. You will find the fragrance (and therapeutic benefits!) of your bath salts last much longer.

TRADITIONAL GOLDEN SHEA BUTTER

We've explored countless samples of "all natural unrefined" Shea Butter, and never could find one that I would put on my skin.  Short shelf life,  unpleasant aroma, yucky color (ranging from grey to greenish to a sickly yellow) all were turnoffs.  So we kept coming back to the naturally refined highly filtered and deoderized Shea butter we have offered for years.  

Finally a friend made several trips to Ghana, working with a woman's cooperative there, consulting with the most well respected expert on Shea Butter, Dr. Peter Lovett, PhD, and using quality control processes Dr. Lovett developed to greatly extend the shelf life of the Shea Nut Oil (Shea Butter.)

The sample we received was wonderful.  Creamy golden in color, softly "spreadable" at room temperature, it was a delight.  Traditionally processed Shea Butter retains all of the botanical riches such as Vitamin A compounds, allantoin (found in aloe and comfrey), and circuminoids (anti-cancer compounds found in cumin) and catechins (anti-oxidant flavenoids also found in green tea.)  This is by far the most appealing Shea Butter we have ever experienced.

ALLERGY NOTE:  Those individuals with BOTH a latex allergy and a nut allergy may react to Shea Butter. 

Best Foot Forward

This healing balm is rich and creamy, with soothing lavender and german chamomile whipped into our rich Shea Souffle.  One of our practioners has used this balm on her diabetic clients to help with the various foot problems diabetes can cause.  She's asked us to make it available for them to order.   Suggested use?  After a bath towel feet dry, slather on this soothing balm, don our Spa Booties (or a thick pair of socks) and rest overnight.
