Rose Bliss Bath

There's a story behind the development of this new product. Some of you know that 2002 was a difficult year for us, on a personal level. We mourned the loss of dear ones, and I personally was left bereft. Days were busy, and okay, but once I came home from work, the nights were so very empty and lonely. I knew I had to do some things to nurture and take care of myself, of my spirit. One of these things became a nightly ritual...a warm bath, beeswax candles, soft music, and rose oil in my bath, because our pure Bulgarian Rose Otto nourishes a woman's spirit, as well as her skin. Bath salts weren't the answer for me...my more than mature skin finds salts too drying. I needed a bath oil, but they float on top of the water and feel greasy, not soft and nourishing.

I experimented with a friends formula for a "blooming bath powder"...and thus our Bliss Bath was borne. A container of powder, each wee bit moistened with nourishing, rich Jojoba oil, with my beloved Rose Oil added with a generous hand. Add a scant scoop of this magical stuff to the tub as it fills...the powder dissolves, dispersing the moisturizing jojoba, and the silky soft powder throughout the water, so that every inch of your skin is caressed with its silken touch. The Rose Oil soothes and nurtures both the skin and the spirit. You leave the bath with your skin feeling soft and silky, your spirit rested and restored. The soft scent of roses surrounds you.

This feather light powdered balm is tightly packed in a PET bail jar (for safety), so you can securely seal it to keep moisture out. We are legally required to sell it by weight, and I'm embarrassed to admit that it weighs only 2 and 1/2 ounces. But it measures a full 16 ounces by volume by the time we finish packing it. One container will give you between 15 and 30 blissful baths, depending on how extravagant you are with it.

We debated whether or not to offer this product. It's costly, when the supermarket is filled with $2.98 bottles of bath oil. But every woman who sampled it begged for more. Two young women, not Rose Oil lovers, emailed me that it was a "Four Star!!!", those who love Rose want to stay in the tub all evening, and one husband wrote the following glowing review:

Unscented Bliss Bath

We have a friend with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. She can not use any aromatic product on her skin, not even our pure essential oils in the lowest dilutions. But she wanted the emollients of our Bliss Bath to soothe dry, flaky skin. Marge whipped her up a batch of Unscented Bliss Bath...rich with Jojoba, and she loved it. Then Courtney suggested that people could add their own essential oils or blends to the Unscented Base. Voila! Add approximately 1/4 cup extra jojoba, with perhaps 3 mls of your favorite synergy or essential oil. Blend in very well, and there you have it - your own custom made Bliss Bath. We packaged this in cellophane bags, for ease of mixing. (When we package Bliss Bath in our Bail Jars, it is packed TIGHT and would be hard to work with.) If you are making this as a gift for a friend, you might want to purchase a Bail Jar for the presentation.

Dead Sea Salt

Mineral rich and less drying than normal sea salt, dead sea salts have been used for millennia to nourish the skin and ease aches and pains. The Salt derived from the Dead Sea contains at least 21 different minerals, 12 of which are not found in the water of any other ocean or sea.

Dead Sea Salts have been used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, reduce the pain and inflammation of arthritis and rheumatism, and generally aid in relaxation. We all find a bath in Dead Sea Salts leaves us relaxed and ready for a good night's sleep.

We offer fine grained salt, which will dissolve more quickly in a bath.

Please note that Dead Sea Salt is a natural product, and like all natural products it is likely to be differ from time to time.

Bali Salts

New and just for fun! We received a sample of these fascinating salts, and Courtney couldn't resist. We normally use very fine grained salts for bathing, because there's nothing worse than a scratchy tub, full of undissolved salt crystals. The larger crystals LOOK wonderful, but aren't as comfortable to use. Enter the Bali Salts, hand harvested from the Pacific, using millennia old methods on the Island of Bali.

These totally natural salts are subtle shades of pale gray, and MUCH larger crystals than any of the other salts we use in our bath salts. But they dissolve almost instantaneously in your bath. The salts are extremely porous and light weight, helping them both absorb and hold your precious essential oils, and dissolve extra fast in water. If you are creating your own bath salts, either for your own use, or for gift-giving, you simply must try some of these textured salt crystals!

Another interesting effect of these wonderful Bali Salts is that a bath in Bali Salts is refreshing and invigorating. A Bali Bath is energizing, rather than sedating, while our Dead Sea Salts leave us all ready for a long nap.

For examples of the relative sizes, the first bowl, below, shows our normal, fine-grained sea salt. The center bowl contains our fine grained Dead Sea Salts. And the bowl on the right contains our new Bali salts.

Cleopatra is said to have bathed in milk...and she knew what she was doing. Milk of all kinds have long been known to rejuvenate and moisturize the skin. Goats milk is unique in that it contains caprylic acid which aids the skin's mantle in shedding dead skin cells and it helps to balance pH. Goats milk is also rich in vitamin E.

Goats milk soap is extremely gentle, very moisturizing and gives the most luxurious bathing experience we have experienced. Wonderful as a specially indulgent facial soap, or for the whole body. Please note...soap with milk in it will never be pure white. The addition of the milk always colors the soap somewhere between a pale creamy beige and a deep rich brown.

Nature's Gift Goats milk Soaps use Goats milk as their liquid, and are made of a blend of Palm Kernel Oil for a hard, long-lasting bar, Olive Oil for rich conditioning and creamy lather, Virgin Coconut Cream Oil for fast bubbling lather, Shea Butter to condition your skin, and Castor Oil for conditioning and extra lather. Sodium Hydroxide is used to turn these solid ad liquid oils into the gentlest soap we have ever experienced.

Calendula Chamomile Castile Soap

I never can predict how a batch of soap will turn out. Last time I made this it came out a really pretty lettuce green. This time, unfortunately, it came out the shade of olive my father used to call "sweet baby yellow." It is one butt-ugly soap. NO ONE will buy it to decorate their bathroom. Well, I hope not. Hate to think what their bathroom must look like.

It has a saving grace though. It is probably the gentlest and most soothing soap I have ever used. Calendula infused olive oil, with just a touch of moisturizing unrefined avocado oil, and a tiny bit of gentle palm kernel and castor oils to give it a rich, lotiony lather. German Chamomile CO2 to soothe irritated skin. It smells like a cup of Chamomile Tea. Gentle enough for a baby's delicate skin. Soothing for dry or irritated skin. Hide it in your medicine cabinet or behind the shower curtain. Your skin will thank you for it!

Cleopatra's Secret

The last batch of this rich facial soap I made sold out in less than a week. We've been waiting for the next batch to cure, and it's finally ready.

Lush Goatsmilk and Shea butter soap, richly scented with a blend of  Frankincense, Myrrh, Sweet Myrrh and Rose,  highlighted with a bit of blingbling ...gold, fit for the Queen of the Nile.

I had not planned to make more of this favorite until winter, but one of our best clients from Texas wrote begging.  She said she and all her friends really rely on it, and their supply from last year is running out.  She says "We tried the 3 Kings and LOVED IT!!!!  It makes the BEST face soap -- summer or winter. It was the best of all worlds.  It doesn't dry too much, no blemishes, no allergic reactions and our faces felt just -- cleaner! 

Now, obviously, 3 Kings is a Christmas name.  but this blend of anti-aging Frankincense and Rose, antibacterial Myrrh, and the rich Goatsmilk, Shea  and Cocoa Butters base makes it truly a soap for all seasons, and fit for royalty.

Reunité Soap - Orange Blossom

Rich with Neroli, Vetiver and other essential oils designed to nurture mature skin (and smell WONDERFUL!), this decadent goatsmilk soap is lavished with shea butter and virgin coconut oil.

Now, I designed this soap with my own mature skin in mind. But at least one client has written:

"By the way, I started washing my face with the Reunite soap just because it felt good and I loved to have the smell close to my nose. It was the first thing to clear up my adult acne without drying up my skin-- better than anything the dermatologist has had for me, everything else has been too irritating. I know it wasn't promoted for this but thought you would like to know :-)"

Rose Shower Gel

For those who simply don't have time to luxuriate in a Bliss Bath, we have designed our moisturizing Rose Shower Gel. REVIVE! Shower Soap

Restore, refresh, revive with this stimulating blend of Peppermint, Rosemary and Tea Tree Essential Oils in our gentle, moisturizing Liquid Castile Soap. It makes a wonderful morning wakeup, or the perfect refreshing restorative after a long hard day when you need to keep going all evening. T requested this because, she says, NOTHING works as well after a day spent working in the garden in summer's heat.

Soap Savers  NEW and redesigned

To protect your precious handmade soap, keep it high and dry. (I bought some of these when a bar of Mille Fleur rather glued itself to the side of the tub...took a screwdriver to pry it loose.) Crafted of Southern White Pine. Now I have one at every sink in the house. Soaps last longer and stay neat.

Our older pine soap decks did keep our soaps "high and dry" but sometimes the bar of soap clung to the dish after it dried. Voila! our favorite woodworker to the rescue. These newly designed soap dishes both allow the bar of soap to dry thoroughly, but resist sticking as well.

Clarifying Soap

Our Clarifying Synergy in a base of gentle liquid castile soap.

This special liquid soap base allows the healing qualities of our precious essential oils to come through, since they are not subject to the stresses of the saponification process, as they would be in a solid soap. No artificial colors or preservatives to trigger possible irritation or allergic responses, just pure liquid castile (created from saponified Olive, palm and coconut oils with aloe vera gel added) and our wonderfully effective essential oils. We recommend following with one of our healing hydrosols to further tone and condition the skin. Please note, some Rosacea sufferers have also reported excellent results from using this soap.

Liquid Castile Soap

A gentle unscented liquid castile soap to contain your favorite essential oil or blend! Our liquid castile is crafted from saponified organic olive, organic palm and organic coconut oils, with organic aloe vera gel added, ready to receive your favorite ingredients. Use in the bath or shower, dilute for a natural vegetable wash, or use for hand washing delicate fabrics. Add up to 1.5 ml of essential oils, and shake to blend well. Packaged in Essential Oil safe PET cobalt plastic with a flip top for your convenience.

MERCY Soap and Treatment Gel

MRSA-(drug resistant "staph")

Some time ago we were contacted by a holistic nurse/client in Wisconsin and asked to take part in a research project.  Reading she had done indicated that a body wash, containing lavender and tea tree essential oils, if left on the skin for a period of time, could be effective against MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). 

We tested different strengths and combinations until we found the mixture that was 100% effective in the laboratory.  This particular combination killed the MRSA bacteria in a laboratory culture.  The results have been repeated and replicated.  Oddly enough, we found that no single essential oil completely killed the bacteria. (Although the most effective was a rare Spike Lavender from France, which, of course, we promptly imported!)

We later went on to test a "leave on" version. The same blend, at a different dilution, in our gentle organic aloe vera gel.  It too kills the MRSA bacteria under laboratory conditions.

Human trials are being organized in Wisconsin even as I type.  But we are unwilling to wait to release the product that has been tested. (And the nurses want to order it for their personal use!)

Will our MERCY Body Wash and/or Treatment Gel kill the MRSA bacteria if you come in contact with it?  We don't know. And even if we did know, we couldn't say so, due to various federal laws and regulations.

What we can say is that the soap will clean your skin, and contains proven natural anti-bacterial ingredients, and that the treatment gel will soothe your skin, while also providing proven, natural all organic anti-bacterial ingredients.

I  wish I had known of this research in Autumn 2005 when I was hospitalized for two weeks and spent months recuperating....from MRSA!

Sandalwood Shave Soother

For him - Sandalwood Shave Soother - a blend of healing Sandalwood essential oil, in a base of Jojoba, Calendula infused Olive Oil, and Vitamin E, to soothe sensitive skin after shaving. I have been told that both Jojoba and Sandalwood can help heal ingrown hairs. I don't know if it's true, but the blend might be worth trying. At any rate, it will soothe irritation from shaving, and leave your man smelling wonderful!

One client wrote and told us her man, nothing...she is using it as a wonderful after shower moisturizer. (I suggested she try one of our goatsmilk soaps - she'll not need a moisturizer!)
