Argan Oil

Argania spinosa  Extra Virgin.cold pressed oil from Morocco,  ECOCERT Certified Organic. An artisian oil, produced by a women's cooperative.

This rich golden oil is known as liquid gold. One sample on your skin and you will understand why.    Argan Oil is widely used by Moroccan women for skin, hair and nail care and has been so for centuries. Many traditional beauty secrets are based on Argan Oil.

When applied to the skin Argan Oil penetrates rapidly leaving an extraordinary softness and sensory feel.  The only faster absorbing oil we have experienced is Marula Oil.

Argan oil, is rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid, Omega 6, and natural tocopherols.  It is said to be nourishing, regenerating and protective for all skin types.

Thanks to its exceptional content of unsaturated fatty acids, Argan Oil helps in the restoration of the hydro-lipidic film of the skin. Linoleic acid, which is one of the omega-6 fatty acids is a precursor of vitamin F. Linoleic acid is present in Argan Oil at a concentration three times higher than in olive oil. As an essential fatty acid it has a key role in preserving cell integrity. The particularly high content of natural tocopherols gives the oil excellent anti-free radical and anti-stress activities and natural self-protection against oxidation.

For the skin

Excellent anti-free radical effect for a preventive anti-ageing effect.
Nourishes dry skin with a tendency towards eczema by helping to  restore the skin's protective barrier
A sebum regulator/balancer for oily or combination skin
Regenerating for anti-stretchmarks care and accelerating healing
   In Liquid Sunshine
Jan Kusmirek recommends a blend of Rose Hip Seed Oil and Argan Oil for treating and/or preventing stretch marks.
Ideal as an all over body oil or for facial care.

Hair use

Fortifies hair giving it brightness, softness and a silky effect
Nourishes and revitalises the scalp

Nail care

Traditionally it is used in an equal part mixture with lemon juice applied to the nails in the evening and kept on over night
When used regularly this mixture strengthens brittle nails and softens cuticle.

Other sources indicate that Argan Oil is useful for reducing wrinkles,

moisturizing dry skin, reducing visible scars left by acne, chicken pox, and spots and other damage like chapped, cracked skin and on burns and scalds. (I have yet to find a natural remedy that is effective for acne scars, so I am eager for feedback on this!)

As a hair conditioner, Argan Oil is said to restore shine and luster to dull, lifeless hair.

I have also read that it can relieve joint pain.

Can be used 100% strength but normally used at 2-10%. in a blend of other oils.  ( I personally love it full strength, perhaps with just a touch of Rose and Sandalwood as a body oil!.)

Because of its high proportion of natural tocopherols  Argan Oil should have a fairly long shelf life.
