KUNZEA AMBIGUA ESSENTIAL OIL

Kunzea Ambigua Australia, Ethically Farmed, Steam Distilled from flowering branches. (Sometimes known as Tick Bush or Spring Flower Bush.)

Tasmanian aromatherapists say that Kunzea is the most healing of the native Australian Essential Oils.

Aromatically Kunzea Ambigua is initially "medicinal" in scent; the high levels of cineole and alpha-pinene are the first thing I was aware of.  But it softens on dry-down to leave a subtly spicy note.

The name "Tick Bush" comes from the habit of cattle and wild animals resting close to the tree because it seems to repel ticks.  Will the essential oil have this effect? I don't know.  But it would certainly be worth trying.

Physical Effects of Kunzea

Kunzea ambigua Essential Oil has been tested and proven effective against Staph, E-coli, and Candida.

In Australia it is registered for the temporary relief of arthritis pain, for relief of the symptoms of influenza, relief of muscular aches and pains, temporary relief of the pain of rheumatism, and to help relief nervous tension, stress, and minor anxiety.

Jeanne Rose states that the essential oil is analgesic and anti-inflammatory, useful for sports and injury relief.  Topical application will diffuse bruising and reduce swelling and irritation, as well as relieving arthritis and muscular pain.  She suggests that inhalation may relieve sinus pain and anxiety.

Others use it as an insect repellant (for ticks, especially I would guess,) a room deodorizer in a nursing home environment, for rapid repair of soft tissue injuries including strains, sprains and bruises.

Skincare Uses of Kunzea Ambigua

Mark Webb quotes anecdotal feedback showing Kunzea Ambigua essential oil is being used effectively in the treatment of: eczema, dermatitis, under nail infections and skin ulcers. He writes that it also eases the pain of insect bites, minor burns, recurring shingles and migraines.

Emotional Effects of Kunzea Oil

Robbi Zeck, in The Blossoming Heart, writes that Kunzea ambigua helps to defuse deep emotional pain that has been suppressed, that it assists in the release of physical and emotional pain.

Blending with Kunzea Ambigua

Kunzea is said to blend well with all of the other Australian essential oils, especially with Rosalina and the lemon scented oils.  For skincare use, it is delightful with Lavender.  I would like to try it blended with Helichrysum italicuum for treating arthritis or other painful inflammatory conditions.
