14 Aromatic quote for December
Canadian goodies - Balsam Fir and Scotch Pine oils had been out of stock, and
arrived just in time for the holidays. Balsam Fir Hydrosol - the specific for
Seasonal Affective Disorder. We've not been able to make this deepwoods scented
herbal water available for several years, so are delighted to have it in stock.
Also new, an old favorite of mine - Ginger Hydrosol. One of the world's yummiest
'tummy settlers'. Back in stock are Ledum and White Sage hydrosols, all
available on our
Hydrosol page.
NEW Holiday Joy synergy - the best and brightest ever - and other holiday
Synergies. This year's "Holiday Joy" synergy simply sparkles. It is a true
delight. In spite of this year's skyrocketing costs, we've held the price
of our three Holiday synergies to 2006 pricing, just until New Year's.
News Clippings - ShopSmart Magazine (by the editors of Consumer Reports)
runs an article on Aromatherapy for Stress Relief in their December/January
issue. Among excellent safety warnings and suggestions, they list three
sources for essential oils: your local Health Food Store, a giant supermarket
chain, and www.naturesgift.com.
On page two of the article, they featured one of our products as a suggested
Christmas gift. We were totally surprised by the mention, and delighted.

fudge recipe. Make a jar of Vanilla Sugar by adding a scrap of tissue with

sugar bowl or decorated canning jar for an instant gift - use in coffee or tea,

Holiday Mailing Schedule - to get your package there in time -
According to the U.S. Post Office website these are the deadlines for Holiday
mailing, to have your package arrive in time for Christmas.
Africa and Central or South America - International Express must be mailed by
Dec. 12, International Express
Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Rim, Europe, Mexico and the Middle East must
be mailed no later than Dec. 17, International Express
Canadian orders must be shipped by December 18th, again, International Express.
Military Mail, via Priority Mail, ranges from December 4 to December 11.
The schedule for the different APO addresses is to be found at
http://www.usps.com/holiday/mailing-holiday-deadlines.htm?from=holidayhome&page=mailingdeadlines#H2
Express Mail to most APO addresses may ship as late as December 18th.
The Postal Service claims that Priority Mail (our default shipping) will be
delivered on time if mailed by December 20th, and that Express Packages mailed
on the 22nd will be received in time for Christmas.
Personally, I wouldn't wait that long. We have had too many delays with
the post office over the past few months to trust that time table. Please,
folks, if you are doing your Christmas Shopping with us (and we hope you are!)
give us time to mail it early.
You all know by now that under normal circumstances we ship your orders
either the day they are received or on the next business day. We fell a
bit
behind during the Cyber Monday crush. We may not be able to get your order
out in as timely a fashion as we have all year long. We are doing our very
best, but please, don't wait until the last minute to order. Also, remember,
that EXPRESS MAIL orders always take precedence. They go to the front of
the queue.
Our Holiday Hours
We will be shipping orders that arrive up until noon our time on Friday,
December 21st. That afternoon we will close for family holidays, reopen for
inventory, and resume shipping orders "Next Year"...on Wednesday, January 2nd.
The phones may or may not be answered while we are here for inventory. Orders
will be billed and shipped in the order received.
12 days of Christmas Gifting
From December 25 through January 5th each year we give back. One order
placed each day will be selected to receive a gift from us. Gifts will
include a Week of Bliss, one of our Aromatherapy Beginner's Kits, a
diffuser, an aroma-lamp, A Cleopatra's Secret Travel Kit, various and
sundry essential oils or absolutes, books, whatever else strikes our
fancy. Will you win? We don't know. But if you don't order, you can't win!
Client Feedback:
Cleopatra's Secret:
Kathy Tillman recently wrote: "I would like to say I received
my latest shipment which included the Cleopatra Face Serum - even if it weren't
good for my skin I would still use it - it feels and smells wonderful!!"
When I wrote and asked for permission to quote her, she wrote back : "On the
Cleopatra Face Serum it would be my pleasure for you to quote. Also as an
addition to that - my husband loves the fragrance also - so that's a plus for
me!!!! He's a fan of Frankincense and Myrrh. I'm going to order the
Toner also - already have the cleanser and again it's great - the smell is a
delight and I can't think when I've used a creamier cleanser - just right for my
"mature" and dry skin." Bless your heart, Kathy! I love it when
folks give us feedback like that!
Helichrysum:
Susan Farr recently wrote:
- It's good to be back in touch and to see you too --
checking out your
website made me hungry for oils again!! I know you have tons of feedback
on your helichrysums, but I want you to know that my bottle (10% in FCO)
stayed in the acupuncture clinic the whole time I was an intern, and
gradually replaced the arnica and chinese ointments as everyone's
treatment of choice when they realized that a puncture was going to leave
a bruise (which happens fairly commonly). And the patients (at least
mine) loved the smell, too. I never even tried the recommended chinese
remedies, as I knew from personal experience how well the heli
works. That'll be my next order!
- Take care,
Susan
and my friend Dabney (of
http://www.dabney-rose.com) distiller and perfumer par excellence, recently
wrote two messages. (well, they weren't recent, the first was a few months ago:
"I've been distracted lately...got a motorcycle..my first at
age 51!! even had my first (minor!) spill..after
limping for 3 weeks (or was it 4?) i got fed up and put some helichrysum on
it..next day i was back on my rebounder!!
I keep a small vial in my backpack now.
I LOVE it!!!!"
Just this week she wrote, adding another two bottles of our Rose-de-Mai
absolute to her order, saying,
"I'm making up a perfume to honor my father, as he gave me
the name Rose! and taught me distilling..but it has ended up with my
daughter's name: Rose Aimee (beloved Rose) and the Rose de Mai IS
exquisite!!"
We're honored to have our Rose de Mai be part of this tribute
to her dad.
Suggestions, recipes, formulas and tips:
Pomander Ball Cleaner: (this is always in our Holiday Newsletter, for
our first time readers.)
(adapted from a recipe from Barbara Lucks)
Not only does this preparation clean but the essential oils disinfect and
provide a natural, festive fragrance.
1 teaspoon Sweet Orange or Mandarine essential oil
a few drops of Clove Oil and Cinnamon Leaf oils
1 teaspoon washing soda
2 teaspoons borax
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups hot water (to dissolve the soda and borax)
Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to dissolve and blend the
minerals. You can spray this cleaner onto a surface then leave it for 15
minutes before wiping it off, to give the essential oils antiseptic
qualities time to work (makes 2 cups).
It will leave your house smelling like an oldfashioned, clove studded pomander
ball!
COLD Weather mouse invasion
Came across an old Email from Linda Isbell - who said that now the cold
weather has hit, the mice are trying to take up residence in her kitchen. She's
found that not only does Peppermint Essential Oil keep ants away, it also
discourages the mice. A few drops on cotton balls in the corners of her cabinets
seem to have encouraged them to move on.
Winter Wonderland Blend (from my friend Beverley, Principal of the
West Coast Institute of
Aromatherapy.) a great blend for the lamp or diffuser. Just a wee bit
energizing.
3 drops Juniper; 6 drops Black Spruce; 3 drops Cypress; 7 drops Balsam Fir; 6
drops Pine; 1 drop Peppermint; 1 drop Benzoin; 1 drop Vanilla.
Christmas Carpet Refresher
I think I'm going to make a variation on my friend
Wendy, of Aromaweb's,
carpet cleanser/freshener for the Christmas season.
Wendy's recipe, with my variation: to 4 cups of Borax (20 Mule Team, in
the Laundry Aisle) add 3 mls (or 60 drops) of either Holiday Joy Synergy or
Balsam Fir Essential Oil. Take a spoon and mash up the little clumps that
will form when the oil hits the Borax, stir until well mixed. If the scent seems
too strong to you, just add a little more Borax. Before vacuuming, I walk around
the house and sprinkle it by hand in the same manner one would sow seeds. Let it
sit on the carpet for 10-15 minutes, or longer if you like, and then vacuum.
This formula will cover approx. 1000 square feet, give or take a little.
(I keep the fur family in another room until I've finished vacuuming. Don't want
them walking on the borax OR the essential oils!)
Quotes of the season:
Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love!
~Hamilton Wright Mabie
"Let Christmas not become a thing
Merely of merchant's trafficking,
Of tinsel, bell and holly wreath
And surface pleasure, but beneath
The childish glamour, let us find
Nourishment for heart and mind.
Let us follow kinder ways
Through our teeming human maze,
And help the age of peace to come."
--Madeline Morse
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
