Charity of the Quarter - Environmental Defense Fund
As the devastation of the oil spill continues to unfold, it is apparent our neighbors in the Gulf region will desperately need our help for some time to come. For this reason we've chosen the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) as our new charity of the quarter. The team at the Environmental Defense Fund has worked in the Gulf for many years and is aware of its unique needs. They are on the ground now working with federal, state, and local agencies in a variety of capacities which includes immediate recovery efforts as well as long term planning for restoration of the area.
Formed in 1967, the EDF's mission is, "to link science, economics, and law to create innovative, equitable, and cost-effective solutions to society's most urgent environmental problems. They are dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations, and fighting for clean water and air and preserving precious ecosystems. The fund is known for its non-partisan and fair approach to its work.
The EDF is on the front lines of this disaster making a difference. The charity garners high ratings on both Charity Watch & Charity Navigator for its important environmental work.
