It's been a long time since we've offered Lemon Verbena. I've always
been concerned about the warnings re topical use. It's always expensive,
and I've never been convinced it's worth the cost. Then we
received a teeny sample from a distiller friend. OH. Beautiful.
YES! It is stunningly beautiful, lovely, fresh crushed lemon
leaf stuff. A fresh leafy green sun dappled garden, captured in a
bottle. A drop in the lamp is the instant cure for the winter doldrums.
Lemon Verbena essential oil is said to
be a powerful anti-inflammatory, fever reducer and sedative. It is
generally inhaled for stress, insomnia, depression, nervous fatigue and
to help during an asthmatic crisis. Jeanne Rose says that it is strongly
anti-viral, and may be applied directly to a cold sore to reduce pain
and symptoms. HOWEVER given the risk of sensitization from the use of
Lemon Verbena, I would choose Melissa or Ravintsara for that purpose.
Because it is a strong sensitizer, I prefer to use it in the aroma lamp,
or in a room or linen spray. Just a drop in the aromalamp soothes stress
and tension, and smells delightful. Because we have so
little it is available only in 2 and 5 ml sizes.

CADE
Juniperus oxycedrus, Certified Organic,
Hydrodistilled from branches and twigs, in France.
For years we've avoided importing Cade Oil because most
of it is produced by destructive distillation and contains
known carcinogens. At a recent conference Rhiannon
Harris mentioned the use of Cade Oil in aiding with the
management of Psoriasis. She stated that it has been
shown to reduce the proliferation of keratinocytes...the
overgrowth of which is one of the causes of psoriasis.
Recent investigations show that the distilled oil inhibits
ceratinocyte proliferation and is also anti-inflammatory.
Based on this, it would appear that Cade Oil, diluted in one
of the
anti-psoriasis fixed oils might be well worth trying in
treating psoriasis.
I have also seen Cade Oil recommended as a treatment for
dandruff, and for seborrhea dermatitis. Quantities limited.

Remember, if blending for a full body massage, a 2 to 3% dilution
is quite strong enough. For a ONE ounce bottle of
carrier, use only 12 to 18 drops of essential oil. If using one of
our 10% dilutions, then you would want to add 6 mls to a SCANT
fluid ounce of carrier (or add 24 mls of carrier to 6 mls of diluted
essential oil.)

Helichrysum Copper Free
Helichrysum italicum, Corsica.
The "Copper Free" Helichrysum is slightly higher in Neryl
Acetate (about two or three percentage points) than our
Traditional Helichrysum. There are those who state that
Neryl Acetate is the determining factor in discerning
quality Helichrysum. My French mentors, however, state that
it is the percentage of Italidiones that determine the
therapeutic value of Corsican Helichrysum, and our
Traditional Helichrysum normally has 12 to 15% Italidiones,
while the "Copper Free" has less than 4%.
There are those who vastly prefer the "copper free"
Helichrysum aromatically. I do not believe it is the
true; Hechrysum italicuum
ssp serotinum. For those who balk at the admittedly high
cost of our "Traditional" helichrysum we are offering the
"Copper Free" at a huge savings.

Charity of the Quarter:

 A
new charity for the new year. We had discussed several
options, but the return of so many of our military personnel
created a more urgent need. We have chosen to
support The
Wounded Warrior Project for the first quarter of this
year, and ask you to join us in supporting them. Quoting
from their website:
"Our programs are uniquely structured to nurture
the mind and body, and encourage economic
empowerment and engagement. Under each of these
program areas, Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP)
offers a variety of programs to meet a range of
needs." The Wounded Warrior Project began
when several veterans and their friends, moved
by stories of the first wounded service members
returning from Afghanistan and Iraq took action
to help others in need. What started as a
program to provide comfort items to wounded
service members has grown into a complete
rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life.
Every Wednesday Nature's Gift donates 2% of our gross
sales to our Charity of the Quarter and we always ask our
friends to contribute by adding a donation to their order.
