New to us, Mastic Hydrosol, a plant originating on the Greek Island of Chios. Traditionally gum of the resin has been used for digestive upset, gum inflammation, and as a general anti-inflammatory. We began offering Mastic Essential Oil over the past year and due to the positive response, have decided to also make this interesting hydrosol available.
The aroma is intensely herbaceous upon initial contact but quickly fades. As an antiseptic for the gums, we noticed barely any flavor as compared to other hydrosols, so it is not offensive in any way if you dab it on the gums.
When Christi visited Greece a few years ago, she sampled Mastic chewing gum which was readily available in any store and extremely popular with the Grecians.
Mastic hydrosol is fairly new in the States and not much if any research exists about its benefits but we believe it should be beneficial in ways similar to the essential oil, yet gentler for use in the mouth on sores, inflamed gums or the tongue or as a gargle or mouthwash. As an added benefit it is said to freshen breath!
The oil is considered antibiotic, antiseptic, astringent, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, balsamic, and expectorant.
The hydrosol spray can be used in a sick room to lighten and freshen the air or on bed linens. Also makes an excellent toner for oily skin.
We are enthusiastic about this new hydrosol and its uses and look forward to your feedback!
(Side note, Christi's mother is suffering from oral Thrush as a side effect of a medication she is taking. None of her doctor's remedies seem to help. Christi is giving her some of the Mastic Hydrosol to spray in her mouth or rinse. We are awaiting the results.)
Principal constituents: a-pinene, myrcene and limonene.
Our hydrosols are packaged in blue cobalt bottles with atomizer tops for ease of use. Hydrosols are perishable: keep refrigerated. For more information on how they're made and their uses, click here.
