In 2016, Hurricane Matthew devastated Haiti, flooding fields and farmlands and killing hundreds. The survivors of this primarily agricultural country were left without the means to feed their families. Vetiver roots, which are a major export of Haiti and a source of income were flooded with salt water. We have two producers of Haitian vetiver oil. Although both were fortunate to survive the storm, neither have been able to go back into production...so we thought we would be without this lovely oil for years to come. Because business abhors a vacuum, the world market became flooded with adulterated Vetiver from Sri Lanka, and of course the cost of good Vetiver from India skyrocketed because of the scarcity.
I met with another importer who wanted to introduce me to his product line, and among the samples was VETIVER-HAITI! The sample was lovely, and I was so excited I couldn't wait to order.
I love Vetiver—the honeyed sweetness of its scent, and the grounding effect it has when my mind is scattered. It's much sweeter and a bit lighter than our Indian Vetiver Oil. I prefer to wear it alone, or blend with just one other oil…perfection. This oil is specifically produced for the perfumers of Grasse.
Emotionally, Vetiver is very grounding and balancing; I value it for this. Vetiver is a key ingredient in our anti-anxiety blend, Reunité. It is also very relaxing and a mild sedative. It's so useful for stress that I won't be without it, and I use it daily blended with Neroli, Petitgrain, and a touch of Citrus.
I’ve seen Vetiver recommended in treatments for anorexia; and have read that it stimulates production of red blood cells and that it is useful for “aches and pains.” It balances sebum production, so is useful in treating both oily and dry skin.
Vetiver is far too thick to come out of the largest orifice reducers we have. When you receive a bottle of it you will need to remove the reducer, and pipette or pour the oil out. Be sure to replace the reducer when you’re done as it creates a seal between the bottle and cap.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 5 to 8 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life. (This is the official estimate. Our experience shows that with proper storage it could be much longer.)
Certificate of Analysis: Batch No. HA-48453 Batch No. HA-58556 Batch No. HA-58610 Batch No. HA-58724
BLENDS WITH: All our Vetiver oils blend beautifully with Jasmine, Neroli, Orange, Patchouli, Petitgrain, and Rose. They are perfect in any blend that needs a sweet base note to anchor it.
